"MOSCOW -- Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose work as a weapons designer for the Soviet Union is immortalized in the name of the world's most popular firearm, died Monday at the age of 94."
RIP
Excuse my butchering his name, poor Western pronunciation.
A client brought in his Browning SxS with a complaint of second barrel not firing. He can hear the hammer fall, no light strike, no bang. The gun has been stripped and cleaned, lubed, didn't help. This is a non-select trigger gun.
Your thoughts?
Bump this to smithing if you like,,,
A client brought me his pet Urika 20 ga, would not spit the empty hull out of the port. I gave it a good cleaning including full detail strip of the recoil spring & tube. Re-lubed, assembled and it ran 100+ rounds flawlessly. Over the years he had run in...
I have a Colt 1903 Type III in the shop, dates to 1919 (SN 31XXXX), that has a high polish blue frame but the slide is/was painted black. Most of the paint is worn/scraped/flaked off, leaving the slide mostly "in the white". This is the second one of these pistols that I have seen with a...
I am rebuilding a 1903 Springer Mk I that has a 03A3 barrel on it. I want to install the ladder type rear sight. Would it be kosher to turn down the breach end to fit the rear sight tube? This would be about .075 loss of diameter, do you think that would seriously compromise the safety of the...
I have a bunch of different ammo for the various guns that come into the shop. Very often I end up with a half box or so of something I bought to test a clients gun. I needed a place/way to store them so I can find them when I need to without emptying a shelf or cardboard box full of odds &...
So a friend wrote me an email asking my advice on a first gun, to wit:
" Do you still think XXX is a good solution for a rarely used gun for home protection? Do you have any advice as to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX?"
Now, I had recommended a XXXX as a low maintenance, pull the trigger and it goes...

I got a batch of lowers from EA (AR-15 platform) and all of them have under size slots for the bolt release latch. The spec is .167 +/- .010" (I think) and these have a slot that will just accept a .151 gauge pin.
Anyone else with EA lower...
One came into the shop with not 1, not 2 but 3 slugs lodged in the barrel (just slightly bulged). Is the barrel threaded or pressed in. Any ideas on an efficient way to remove 3 slugs??
I know there were some problems there earlier this year. They are still into me for about 3K rounds of LC .223 brass I sent them to be processed. No one answers the phone, no email contact. Sure would like my brass back...
with a gold wash & ivory grips. Any history known about the gold & ivory? A special commemorative? I know it was imported by Interarms, in the 70's. This is the only one I have seen with the ivory eagle grips.
... is what is stamped on the receiver. 12 ga, O/U, Monte Carlo stock. "Made in Finland" on the barrel. Sling swivel on the lower barrel & stock. 75% gun with a repaired ding in the side of the upper barrel. Vent rib. Any ideas of origin, year? Blue Book doesn't list it.(S/N is 18XXX)
