I assure you that he's not about to fire that weapon.
You'd be hard pressed to find a photographer sufficiently obtuse to sit at that angle from a .50 BMG muzzle brake...
There does definitely appear to be radial stretch marks on the web of that case, near the top of the rupture. To my (untrained) eye, it appears that the gas first escaped at the forward end of the split, and then vented/cut back towards the rear as it flowed out of the case. Once-fired .50 BMG...
As a leftie, holding the magwell/magazine on an AR-styled weapon affords me instant access to the mag release button with my right thumb (and positive control over the empty magazine as soon as that button has been pressed).
ATF tends not to think highly of electronic triggers. Mechnical linkages are one thing, but from what I recall they've never approved anything along the lines of a paintball trigger pack with a solenoid.
Considering that the rifle has only been shipping for the past week or so, it might not be unreasonable to expect that it might take a little while for more parts to become available.
After all, how long has the SCAR been available? And how many OEM or aftermarket components are available...
My one big question is just why precisely the gun forum world has decided to collectively crap upon the ACR, and insists on going to making such great contortions of logic to justify the sudden overwhelming hate. So far I've seen people complaining about every last little detail, down to...
There are Elcan red dots on eBay in the $500 price range, but they're *NOT* the DR magnified optics. And for $500, you might as well buy an Aimpoint with an extremely solid and proven track record.
I guaran-frigging-tee you that those are cheap Chinese clones of the Elcan Spectre, rather than the real thing. The actual optic is going to be over $1000, new OR used.
Go run it through a couple of carbine competitions, or a class or two, and then come back and see if you still feel like...
That's a hell of a shot from a standing position, at night, with a 10/22 carbine. Either he was incredibly lucky, or had practiced a considerable amount (and more than likely was using the wall next to him as a rest).
If the officer was struck in the heart...then where the hell was his body...
There's a reason why Trijicon sells so many ACOGs.
They work.
And there's a reason why all of the Chinese clones cost 1/10 as much: they don't work.
Buy once, cry once.
MRP /= MSR.
The rifle in the linked video is the Remington MSR, which has yet to be released. Stated retail is claimed to be upwards of $7K for a basic rifle, with complete packages going for over $10K.
I had the opportunity to shoot the MSR, and wasn't overly impressed. It's fairly well...
Many times.
The AX uses a different rear half, or at least the current prototypes do (to the best of my knowledge). The design isn't totally finalized, so it's too soon to say so for certain.
Consider:
Compared to:
Overall shape is different, cheekpiece positioning is...
This may or may not be directly relevant, but also consider the price spreads between ARs and boltguns.
Typically market value for an entry-level AR starts at approximately $600, and goes up to roughly $2000 (for the rifle itself, discounting any additional premiums for engraving...
