Usually either a Glock 23 or S&W1911PD somewhere between 7 and 8 o'clock (yup, I'm a lefty) in an AKJ Concealco IWB holster. I believe their site is www.concealco.com. The Concealco IWB holsters don't use the typical reinforced mouth so they are very thin. In the sumer, I can get away with...
One of my Glocks (G23) has developed a slightly loose takedown lever. It has just a little play from side to side. It's just loose enough that if I press on it, it becomes flush with the frame. It's still fully functional, but it has me concerned. Is this a big deal, or am I worrying for...
I have 5-8 guns that I consider adequate for carry (Glock 26, Glock 19, Glock 23, S&W 1911PD, Kahr P9, Kahr P40....), meaning that I've fired boatloads of rounds through each and trust them completely. However, I keep finding myself instinctively grabbing either the G23 or the 1911PD. I always...
For IWB, be sure to check out www.concealco.com. Andy makes the most comfortable IWB rig I've tried. His IWB holsters don't use a typical reinforced mouth, but still retain their shape post-draw for easy one-handed reholstering. They're really thin, which helps with concealability, as well...
Ruger Mk II.
Colt 1911 and variants.
Glock 17. GLocks in generally, really. But this was/is the benchmark Glock.
Beretta 92/M9.
Walther PP series.
I'm taking it from a historical perspective. If I made a list of my personal favorites, they would all be Glocks and 1911s.
G19. Compact enough for eventual CCW, large enough for a proper grip, and the best part -- ammo is cheaper than any of the other compact Glocks. May as well get something that you would be more likely to shoot often.
GigaBuist, it usually takes me 30-60 seconds to strap on my vest, and I've been doing it for many years. In a groggy state, I imagine that time would at least double. I suppose you could just throw it over your head without tightening the straps, but I don't see any reason to delay reaction...
I agree, it's a great gun. I love mine. I really didn't think that a marginally shorter slide and that slightly "deeper" curve in the backstrap would make that much of a difference, but they both do. I own and really like a standard 21, but this new 21SF is now my favorite house gun. It...
Check out the Bowie Tactical Concepts page at www.bowietacticalconcepts.com. He does some amazing work with finishes, grip stippling and grip reduction. He has a ton of pictures on the site, so you can at least get some good ideas.
If you're lucky enough to have a local range that rents range guns, take advantage of it and fire examples of both. You should have a clear winner after that. One will just have a better "feel" for you. If left with only the choice between Sig and HK, I personally would go with HK. I'm a...
I have to agree with steelhead. As a lefty myself, there is no gun that makes me feel handicapped for carry purposes. Maybe a standard 1911 w/o an ambi-safety, but that's it. It's all about learning the controls and adapting. I've been using "righty"-designed guns for so long that I don't...
I echo the thought of cslinger. You most likely have the DAK model, that has no decocker. The standard 229 and 229R have a decocker feature that you may be confusing with a safety.
dfariswheel,
in the Dec 06/Jan 07 issue of Handguns, author Duane Thomas writes "when you make a full-power auto pistol this small, especially with a polymer frame, you severely impact long-term durability. Kahr's not fooling anyone; the company will flat-out tell you the PM9 is a 6,000...
For the past year, a late 50's/early 60's model 38 Airweight has been my warm-weather carry gun. As long as your gun is in solid functioning order, you of course can trust it. I agree that you should keep the +p stuff away from it. I found that the 110 gr Winchester Silver Tips performed...
I just bought a 15-3 the other day, and it has some aftermarket grips on it. I can't tell the manufacturer, and was hoping that someone here could help me ID these things. They appear to be very well made, in the Coke Bottle style, with a relatively simple checkering and carving pattern. On the...
You hear horror stories about how dirty it is -- but I shoot a lot of Ultramax .38 Special. So, is it as dirty as the stories would lead you to believe? Yup. Does it leave heavy leading in the barrel? Yup. However, with some diligent cleaning, all is well. And, at about $30 for 200 rounds...
Thanks, XavierBreath. I've actually decided against sending it in. It's such a sweet shooter, and has so much character, that I just can't justify altering it in any way. As a pleasant side benefit, I'm going to use the money I set aside for the re-working to buy yet another S&W revolver...
