    So S&W IS releasing a Model 66 snubby ...

I wonder if the promotional shots from only the right ("non-lock") side on the S&W website are an acknowledgement of the lack of enthusiasm for that pimple

Evolution of the S&W Model 39

I love, love, love the single stack 3rd generation Smiths. Also always wanted a 3904/3906. I have a 3953 and 2-3913's. Have owned several others in the past. I did sell off my CS-9 because I prefer the 'feel' and balance of the slightly larger 39xx's. I wouldn't worry too much about S&W...

    Recommendation for .45 range gun

Another vote for a S&W "3rd Generation" metal, hammer-fired .45. A model 4506 or 4566 for steel framed, 5" or 4" barrels. Other variations available in various grip and barrel-length combinations on both steel and aluminum frames. I've personally chosen to stick with 1911-pattern pistols only...

Quoth the RAVEN "Nevermore", or never say never!

Back in the mid-to-late 80's I joined a local range. First year dues was $60 and included a Raven .25!

The first handgun you purchased and why?

Bought my first in the mid-80's when the "Wonder-Nine" craze was in full swing. Every other issue of whatever magazine (remember magazines?) had a comparison of the Sig 226 vs. BHP vs. Beretta 92 vs. Taurus 92 vs. Glock 17 vs. S+W 5906. I ended-up with a Taurus PT99AF. (Ran around telling the...

    cleaning?

It only takes a few minutes to field strip, blow the dust and lint out and give it a quick wipe with a couple drops of oil. If you carry it daily I'd do this weekly.

    Which would you sell?

When faced with these questions I usually advise to sell that which is most easily replaced if/when you miss it

    1911 is outdated?

"If you actually shoot one and decide you don't like it, fine. But the notion that it's obsolete is foolishness" Thanks 1911 Guy. I may be quoting you again.

    3rd Generation S&W's- what is/was the impression?

Big fan of the entire 3rd Gen line up with special preference for the single-stack 9mms. I've owned: CS9, several 3913's and 3953's, 4506-1, 4513TSW, 915, 6906. I'm mainly 1911 for .45 and BHP for "hi-cap" these days so now only own 2-3913's and a 3953. Never had a lick of problem with any...

    dan wesson eco 9mm

Would love to own one but a little out of my range ($). But I am curious what "bad" you've heard about them? They seem to be universally well accepted from what I've heard.

A pair of pistols for my progeny

I agree with hAkron. Start with a pair of BHP MkIII's or Colt/Springfield 1911's and get them tuned and refinished to match by a pro. If you go to Cole's gunbroker page you could get three BHP's (one for you, too!) for a little over a grand leaving you almost $1000 each for the work.

    s&w 6906 replaces my p239

I've had many third gens over the years. I am down to three 39xx-series (single-stack versions of your 6906). The 5906 mags WILL work in your 6906. There is also a 'collar' available that smooths the transition between the bottom of the grip and the part of the mag that sticks out.

    Colt Series 70 value?

In addition to the low buy price at Bud's I'm pretty sure Colt still has their $100 rebate going. $614 for a brand new Colt!

    What's a fellow to do?

+1. Stick with your .45's. but go get a 3913 anyway - they're great guns!!

    Concealed Carry

Countzero gives great information. (That's a great post, Count, and I will keep it as a reference for the future.) I think you'd be well-served with anything on his list. For varying reasons I'd personally not consider the Rohrbaugh, Boberg, Diamondback or Double-Tap. I have the Shield in...

    S&w 915

If she likes the 915 it's an easy home run. Accurate enough for self defense and plinking (though not necessarily a "tack driver") and as reliable as gravity. Count me among the S&W 3rd Gen fans. For carry you might want to see if you can find a 3913/14/53 or 3954. Same great reliability...

    Why choose a Commander's 1911?

Feel and balance are very subjective. One of my other favorite designs is the S&W "3rd Gen" single-stack 9mm's. I had a couple different 3913's and 3953's and couldn't wait to have a CS9. When I finally got one the overall feel and balance were just a little off for me. When you look at the...

Great article about the 1911, good and bad

Quoted from RetiredUSNChief: (and Thanks for your service.) "None of the other Colts that I, or one of my brothers, has had over the decades has EVER had to have "more work to keep them running right than..." I tire of this, too. Even on the 1911-specific forums, sometimes you'd think there...
