What are some unpopular opinions you have about guns?

I don't think Kimbers are up to the hype or price. There's dozens of other manufactures making a better 1911 for less money. with todays machining technology, any company who says you have to shoot 400 rounds of premium ammo before the gun is considered reliable is simply producing unreliable...

    the .57 BMG Idea

The other problem is that your new .57 cal rifle would be considered a "destructive device" under the ATF and have to be registered, taxes paid etc. Lot of messing around for 0 gain over the .50.

    Trap club snobs (rant)

Very frustrating morning. I have been excited for a long time to try trap shooting. A local trap club held an "open to the public meat shoot" today for a fund raiser. Sounded fun so I went. Right away I noticed it was fairly disorganized and had a lower than expected turnout, then we noticed...

Whats a good wall hanger for over the fireplace?

^^^^+1 on flintlock. Mosins lack romance. They were made for shooting and in a pinch, paddling your canoe!

    45 acp for conversion

Jacketed bullets are considerably harder to push down the barrel than lead bullets which results in higher pressures. The company is probably covering their butt because 1.- they have no idea what the condition of your gun is, 2.- black powder guns were never designed to handle modern load...

    .454 Lead Round Balls

My local black powder shop says he's having trouble getting percussion caps and lead balls because the manufactures are using all the components and manpower to make modern ammo to try and meet that demand. Black powder shooters are pretty low priority to the manufactures right now.

    Antiquing a pair of brassies

That looks great! I've been wondering how to knock the cheap cartoony blue and gold shine off my brass framed 1858. You've inspired me to give it a try!

Lee neck sizing die crumpling cases

"You are lubing them, right? I always lube the inside and outside of the necks, and it's always been as smooth as silk. What kind of lube are you using?" :scrutiny: Lee neck sizing collet dies don't require lube! They squeeze the brass to size unlike a regular die that draws the brass...

Lee neck sizing die crumpling cases

Sounds like you have it set to deep or your brass is way out of spec(too long) and the shell is bottoming out in the die and getting crushed. A neck size only die is a collet that "squeezes" the neck. There should be no downward force on the shell that would cause that.

    Off-the-shelf self-healing 4x8 rubber sheeting like Linatex?

Check your local farm stores for "cattle/horse mats". They're really heavy rubber, big and not horribly expensive. Here's one from our local store: http://www.ruralking.com/quality-rubber-4-x-6-rubber-horse-mat-3-4-thick.html

    30-06 for a 13 year old?

First of all, you've got a cool Grandma!!!! The 30-06 does have a decent recoil, especially in a light weight gun, but if you've been shooting that 16 gauge without issue then the 30-06 can be managed. Buy a gun with a recoil pad and start with light bullets (125 gr.) and maybe even the...

    Remington 700 sps issues/upgrades?

I've owned on for years and never had an issue. I also switched to a B & C stock shortly after I got it. Big improvement and worth every dime. There's several companies that make detachable magazine conversions for the 700. Most kits use M14 / M1A magazines and from what I've read they work...

Can you Buy a Firearm Located in another Country?

Regardless of what type of gun, it would have to meet all of the Federal import criteria and would have to be processed through an importer that's licensed to do so. Wouldn't be impossible to do but may not be worth the time and money....and would take a lot of time and money:(

    obscure calibers??

8mm-308 Norma I inherited a custom Mauser in 8mm-.308 Norma Magnum. Came with custom made dies to reload. It's a .308 Norma magnum case necked up to 8mm. Somebody put a lot of time and money building this which doesn't make sense because the ballistics are identical to the .338 Winchester...

What is the first gun you ever puchase or received

Mine was a H & R Topper model 20 gauge that was worn out with a broken ejector when I got 30+ years ago. I told my naive Mother it was a BB gun so she'd let me have it. I shot the rest of the bluing off that thing and still have it in the safe today.

That's just as stupid as the shot gun with the chainsaw handle. Who the heck is the Mossberg marketing dept. trying to attract anyway? If they want that kind of business they should be selling video games!:barf:

    Hiding Firearms

Now your talking about a little different scenario. I had a similar situation happen to a freind. My friends wife was arrested for embezzlement from her work place and did some time.
