CT Appleseed Events (Jan-Mar, 2011) - Multiple Cities

Nice catch, desidog. Both Chaplin and Colebrook should have a 200-yard known distance component on Day 2 for center fire rifles and 100 yard KD for rimfires. Lebanon is capable of 100-yard known distance. Hartford's March event will be on the pistol range and is limited to 25m. CJ

CT Appleseed: Fall/Winter 2010 Events (Multiple Cities)

Range fees are charged by host ranges and not by Appleseed. We don't set the host range rates, and from time to time, we get the occasional range that donates range time. But it is what it is. I will say though that the range fee at BTR is $15 per person per day and not hourly. So an Appleseed...

CT Appleseed: Fall/Winter 2010 Events (Multiple Cities)

Hi MK11, Yes, the range fee is in addition to the $70 ticket price and is charged by the host range. Please note that the range fee is collected at the event. Also note that women, under 21, and active military attend for free, but are not exempt from this host range's fees. Hope to see you...

CT Appleseed: Fall/Winter 2010 Events (Multiple Cities)

Hi All: Project Appleseed in CT has been hard at work signing up ranges and dates. We still have five events for the remainder of this year and we're working on filling the calendar for 2011. I wanted to highlight in particular our "Pumpkinseed" on October 30-31, 2010 at none other than...

    M4 Iron Sights Help!

Question asked and answered, but I'll add that when adjusting any set of irons, here's a helpful phrase: "Use the F.O.R.S." Front sight opposite. Rear the same. IOW, move the front sight in the opposite direction you want POI to go. Move the rear sight in the same direction.

CTGunner, absolutely. You'd be very welcome at an Appleseed. We've had everyone from complete newbies (as in having never shot a firearm before) to designated marksmen and everyone in between, all on the same line.

Got a Ruger LCP for a good price, now I need a holster

I carry my LCP in a Meco back pocket holster. It's well-made, draws quick, and doesn't print at all - just looks like a wallet in my back pocket. Highly recommended. A pic off their website. It comes in black and mahogany as well:

Compact .45 Auto - What do you carry and why?

I have an HK45c that I carry, but that's not going to help you much if your USP compact's been giving you some troubles. Like others have mentioned, I'd recommend a slim and trim 1911, perhaps in a commander size or a CCO.

    Connecticut Appleseed Events, March-June 2010

Excellent, Hatterasguy. I hope you do make it out to one of our events. Our April event in Hartford is the Big One, commemorating Patriot's Day (April 19, 1775). It's filling up quickly. If you can't make that one, they'll be plenty more down the road. Stay tuned here on THR or visit us on...

    multiple mags for appleseed?

gidaeon, that's a fine choice for an LTR and one that is growing more in popularity at Appleseeds (vs. the venerable Ruger 10/22). I have one myself that I use as a loaner rifle. For those browsing this thread contemplating an Appleseed, I just wanted to add that you certainly don't need to...

    multiple mags for appleseed?

Project Appleseed State Coordinator for CT checking in here... I'd recommend 4 10-round magazines if you can swing it (5 is better though - one for a spare). Any less and you may be spending more time than you'd like preparing magazines during the Course of Fire for the AQT (qualification...

you favorite COMPACT all metal 9mm?

SIG P239 for me, although one can argue that SIG has a funny definition of compact. I carry one most of the time.

    New Ruger 10/22 misfeeds

Was this all on one magazine? Sounds like the mag just needed a little exercise. If it continues to happen, try a different magazine and/or different ammo. At some point, you may want to change out the stock extractor for something beefier (Volquartsen Exact Edge comes to mind). I did that on 2...

A common lament among those folks that move to CT... Ledyard goes out to 400 yards, I believe. Most other ranges max out at 200 yards. And I don't know of any public ranges that go out further than 100 yards. :( I won't disagree with you on that one, which is why we include the known...

    Connecticut Appleseed Events, March-June 2010

Good question, dd. As you can imagine, 500-yard ranges are few and far between in some parts (not all, but some) of the country, including CT. Because of this, we simulate longer ranges by scaling down targets at 25 meters (82 feet). Why 25 meters? Because that means we can have Appleseeds even...

Bring a friend who has 2 rifles. :) Seriously, this happens quite a bit. Or beg and borrow one from a friend. As a last resort, we do have loaner rifles available but their availability is not guaranteed. Of course, an Appleseed is the perfect excuse to pick up a new rifle

    Connecticut Appleseed Events, March-June 2010

An Appleseed is a 2-day intensive rifle marksmanship course coupled with poignant and stirring presentations of colonial American history, specifically the events of April 19, 1775. But it is much more than that. It's a chance for everyday people to take part in a great and unique American...
