Low Cost Optics ($200-$300) What NOT to buy....

For me, I had to look through various scopes. My eyes are not the best, so I wanted a scope that would allow me to pull the rifle to my shoulder and get a picture without dealing with eye relief issues. I found that some scopes, although nice and clear, had less forgiving eye relief. I looked...

Help me ID this war rifle

My M1916 Spanish Mausers have "CAL 7.62" stamped in the metal next to the vent hole on the left of the receiver. That doesn't show in your photo. Maybe a clearer shot of that area. You can poke around on this site: http://masterton.us/Spanmauhome

    Thanks. These postings make sense.

Imbel FAL from Aimsurplus and 922r.

This should be in the FAL File Forum, but I am already registered in too many forums. Aimsurplus advertises: "New DSA, Inc. FAL .308 caliber semi-automatic rifle. Manufactured by DSA, Inc. using DSA Type 1 carry handle cut metric pattern receivers, and Imbel parts kits. They feature...

    Yugo SKS headspace.

I don't think so. The bore diameter is right for 7.62. I drop the same shell into a Norinco and it seats about 0.05" farther in.

    Yugo SKS headspace.

I have been all over that SKS board and haven't found an answer, so I thought I'd post here.

Mosin nagant ? Whats to be expected?

This guy: http://arthurshall.com/x_2007_manly_firearms.shtml puts it as #9 on the world's "manliest" guns.

    Yugo SKS headspace.

How much should a cartridge stick out of the chamber on a Yugo SKS? This photo is from a "parts gun" that I am wondering if it is salvageable and worth taking to the smith. How does one actually measure head space on a semi-auto? I cruised around on this board and others, but couldn't find an...

    Down side to 30-06 ?

A couple of years ago, I went through the same series of questions, with the .30-06 as a top first choice. I ended up with a Marlin 270 (hence my "handle"). Same basic size as the -06, but a little more speed, a little flatter. I was specifically looking for something optimized for Eastern...

Proper thread grease for SKS barrel.

Replying to myself: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1149/Product/BARREL_ASSEMBLY_PASTE The key ingredient is Molybdenum Disulfide. Going to check the autoparts stores to see if they have anything similar. I kept searching for grease-- which led me astray.

Proper thread grease for SKS barrel.

I pulled the barrel from a "parts" Yugo SKS so I could get at the chamber for corrosion cleaning. Once the big wrench started the process, the barrel unscrewed nicely by hand. There was some remaining grease on the threads. My question is: what is the right grease to use on the threads when...

    Norinco SKS and 922r compliance.

While doing the 10-part counting game on a Norinco SKS, it came down to what was the country of origin for the synthetic stock. The buttplate and grip had the logos in the pictures. I found "19501" on the inside. Scouring the web, I found a similar model 19505 made by Ram-Line of ATK. I sent...

    308 Powder Opinions

My brother has been working up handloads for our M1916 Spanish Mausers that have been redone in 7.62x51. Since the rifles are based upon 7x57 mauser, we are limiting them to about 42,000+/- cup. The Hodgdon reload site shows 150 gr bullet using 45gr of BL-C(2) at about 40,000 cup. My brother...

    External ballistics before computers.

I was flipping through my 1924 copy of the M1903 rifle and noticed that they include a table of accuracy showing deviations (vertical, horizontal, and radius) to the resolution of 0.1" from 100 yards to 1000 yards. How did they make those measurements back in the day? Big sheets of paper...

Yugo M24/47 Mauser with minimal receiver markings.

I put the same question in another forum and got a nice bit of detail: http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforums.yuku.com/topic/38032

    Steyr M95/30 side markings.

Thanks. Yes, there's a big S on the receiver over the W-n-20. I didn't take a photo of that. It almost looks like three different kinds of eagles.

    Steyr M95/30 side markings.

Anyone know what all these little stamps mean on the right hand side of the Steyr M95/30 I got at Big5? The big S (8x56r) is stamped over W-n-20, which I think means Vienna 1920.

Experience ordering from :Tennessee Gun Parts

I've purchased a little bit from them-- spare parts, like screws, etc.-- seemed just fine.
