Yugo SKS headspace.

How much should a cartridge stick out of the chamber on a Yugo SKS? This photo is from a "parts gun" that I am wondering if it is salvageable and worth taking to the smith. How does one actually measure head space on a semi-auto? I cruised around on this board and others, but couldn't find an answer. I've done the go, no-go, field gauge game on bolt actions, but never on a semi. TIA.

Are you sure that barrel isn't chambered for the 5.4 cartridge?

I have been all over that SKS board and haven't found an answer, so I thought I'd post here.

I don't think so. The bore diameter is right for 7.62. I drop the same shell into a Norinco and it seats about 0.05" farther in.
