Thanks, ForumSurfer. I'll look for CCI to start.

Why is finding a quality used 1911 so hard?

Novice here, but I've heard that you need to think about maintenance costs down the line. I don't know that a cheap 1911 is worth it. They seem to be expensive machines, very elegant, but requiring a lot of care.

    Buckmark and ammo

I'm new to the .22 platform and I'm picking up a Browning Buckmark today. Is there any FMJ ammo for 22LR? Or is there a "best" 22LR that you'd recommend for this which will not lead the barrel excessively?

Hurricane Katrina, confiscation, the prelude. What's your plan? http://traffic.libsyn.com/guntalk/100829guntalkA.mp3

Want a decent 1911... What do ya say?

Thanks for this thread. Lots of 1911 threads of course, but I'm looking for something like this something that can be built on, for which parts are interchangeable, that's "standard", etc.

    Poor boy's trigger job

Smooth would be good. Not so much light that I'm after, but with my smaller hands, I don't feel that I have so much "command" of it. Maybe just a range feeling, without adrenaline. I'm sure in a home defense situation, I'd be able to pull it just fine.

    Poor boy's trigger job

Thanks for the replies! Good point about adrenaline, although with the heavy pull, I'm not certain I'm as accurate as I could be.

    Poor boy's trigger job

Oops, it likely won't work then. Oh but to save money on a smith and do it myself. I don't really want to trade in the gun.

    Poor boy's trigger job

Has anyone tried this? http://www.gunblast.com/Poorboy.htm The trigger pull of my Ruger GP-100 is a bit stiff/heavy, and I'd like to smooth it out, make it lighter, but not sure if this is the right thing to try or not.

    Halbrook's work

Thanks, all. Impressed by this forum (what belercous said). The Sept. 2010 issue of Liberty magazine has an original -- to my eyes -- interpretation of the 2nd Amendment by Erwin Haas titled Arms and the man in the Reflections section. His point is that the amendment is meant to convey the...

I would likely say the same, but it should suffice that we are allowed to do so.

Gun-toting soccer moms a scary thought in D.C. area, but not out west

Thanks for the link. I was expecting hysterical anti-gun propaganda from the Post, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Key point to acknowledge different cultures.

    Cops and Armed Citizens

Good to know. I'd like to open carry while hiking, but was unsure of the legal ramifications. (I don't have a CPL). Reactions? Have people 'freaked out' and called the cops?

    Ammunition for the self-defense firearm

Thanks, Shawn. The most accurate auto I've shot is a .40 M&P. Might have to trade in that revolver I don't hit so well with. And thanks for posting http://www.firearmstactical.com/hwfe.htm in particular. Very useful conclusion.

    Ammunition for the self-defense firearm

So if we start with ammo, then the next question in my mind is which handgun for the caliber/round selected. I know, a can of worms... time to keep reading!

For all the Ruger bashers out there.

All I can say is that my GP-100 is a great gun. Don't know about their pistols, but I'd love to get a Redhawk too.
