    Marlin 1894 sights

I am lining up just as you are suppose to and am holding at six oclock at bottom of target. I think my problem was not seating the front bead in tight to the notch of the semi-buckhorn sight. I don't think it takes much to get off target. I guess its part of what makes using open sights a bit...

    Marlin 1894 sights

Thanks for the reply's. Well, since I posted I went to the range w/o the front hood and paid real close attention to the seating of the front bead to the semi-buckhorn rear sight. Hand held at 20yds. and not a bad group and certainly not the horrible results as before. Just a little high...

    Marlin 1894 sights

Addition Also want to say that I took off the front hood to help see the front sight as my target was black as was the backstop which makes it kinda hard to line things up. I will be taking it to the range tomorrow without the hood.

    Marlin 1894 sights

I have a question about my semi-buckhorn sights on a new Marlin 1894 SS .44mag. I have only shot this rifle once at the range after I bought it a couple of years ago and I don't recall any sighting issues. However, when I went to the range last week and shot it, I was consistantly shooting 12...

Interesting New Study of Bears vs. Guns

I've come to the conclusion after a lifetime in the wilds of the western lower 48, some in British Columbia and on a bear research project in N. Idaho that many people are way too eager to carry only a gun for protection against bears. The idea that one must be anti-gun if he carries spray is...

how did you fare through the ammo shortage .....

I don't recall an ammo "shortage". I buy online and back then, yes there was a shortage of choice but not overall availability.

New development with carry gun, (pic).

I'm no expert but I would say you have "pudgey" hands. Please, no offense. So I would consider your grip is too high. Try holding the damn thing a little lower on the grip. If this does not work, try a different firearm.

Reccomend me a .308 Battle Rifle

Since I'm another liberal w/ guns, I like my M1A NM. I like the walnut stock, the lineage and the accuracy. But...you need $2k. At 9lbs, it aint lite. My 2 cents.

If you could only have three guns...

    1. A good hunting rifle with scope...you choose. I like .300 win mag as the caliber. 2. A good shotgun. Remington model 870 pump is my preference. 3. A good revolver. i.e. S&W model 629 in .44 mag. or other in .357 mag.

    Arthritis and shooting questions...

Interesting thread. I have osteo arthritis and my working/shooting hand has been getting worse from years of carpentry work, not to mention a host of other issues that I won't even go into. I also recently have been experiencing carpel tunnel in the same hand from hammering and vibrating...

Picking a trail gun (10mm vs .44 Mag)

I agree with others who recommend a S&W 629 4" in .44 mag. I would add that you should load it with full lead rounds like the Garrett cartridges. Just don't carry hollow points............And bear spray which you should always consider first. My two cents.

peep sight for ruger mini-14 pre-2005?

The pic looks like it does indeed pop down to allow the scope. What year is your mini and what brand is the peep sight? Also, what scope mount are you using? Nice looking set-up. Thanks so much for the reply and photo.

peep sight for ruger mini-14 pre-2005?

I have a question for a friend of mine (he's too shy to do this), well, whatever. He has a pre-2005 ruger ranch rifle and wants to put a peep site on it that can flip up so when he doesn't use his scope, he has good open sight capability. I suggested a higher scope mount but I don't know his...

    Mosin Nagant popularity

I don't know how people are pasting previous quotes on this forum but someone said "no FFL" on purchasing these things. What is FFL? Federal Firearms License? Sorry for the stupid question. Buying an antique rifle that functions can't be any different than buying any firearm, no? Anyway, I...

    Mosin Nagant popularity

Wow I suspected as much from the posts but I had no real idea. A month or so ago I didn't even know what a MN was until my curiosity got the better of me and I checked them out on Wickipedia. Their history is indeed rich. A facinating rifle. I think I'll grab a case or two while they're...

    Mosin Nagant popularity

I don't post much so forgive me. But I am most curious as to why this historic military rifle is so popular. I'm referring to the Bud's gunshop most sold firearms in 2010. I have some ideas such as simplicity/reliability/firepower, affordability, hold/increase their value, yada yada. But...
