    Need a semi-auto rifle.....

I'd choose the AR platform over the Ak's. I've shot a Rock River mid-length carbine over the last 4 years. It has the removable upper and folding front sight. 2 stage match trigger like I had on my Colt HBAR that I shot Service Rifle with for 13 years. Haven't had any reliability problems with...

    AR-7 Good Survival Rifle??

I've had mine since they were Armalite...1966!! Shoots just about everything that I've put thru it...good stuff and Thunderbolts <GG> I give it a thorough takedown cleaning every year/1000 rounds, and use the good GI stuff (CLP or Tetra Gun) to lube. Accuracy with good ammo is decent, may...

Need some help with ID of Muzzle brake

It looks very similar to the one on my 358 NM. It was made by the gunsmith who installed the barrel. Mine has a solid bottom, so there's some muzzle flip control, but with the holes drilled at 90 degree angles, I can see no recoil reduction. Your's seems to have holes all around, and drilled...

The logistics of owning multiple calibers

I reload for every caliber that I own, including .25ACP....a bit anal there, but those dies are Lee carbide, and were cheap..20 years ago<GG>

Guns with "Soul" (or presence, or character, or personality, etc...)

I have several "soul guns". My dad's Winchester M-70 target in 30/06 and my first target gun, a Win. M-52D for starters. I've shot the M-70 for many years in the NRA matches at Camp Perry. The M-52 has fond memories of local smallbore matches that I shot and the 4-H kids that also shot it and...

    Lifespan of an AR?

I bought my Colt HBAR in '86. All major parts are stock. Trigger, sights and tube under the hand guard are match mods by Compass lake Engineering. Barrel, bolt assy gas tube etc are original. Probably 10,000 rounds thru it over the years in Hi-Power competition by me and several junior...

If you lived/live in a 'free state' and you could pick One Fully-Automatic firearm...

I'd pick a 9mm Sterling, suppressed. I have the semi-auto carbine, and it's the most accurate 9mm carbine that I've ever fired..2 3/4 inch rested groups at 100 YARDS (iron sights), something the semi-auto Uzis and HK-94's that I shot did at 50 FEET.

    Best Caliber That Never Took-off

I'll also vote for the 358 Win., 35 Whelan ...and add the 358 Norma Mag. I'll also throw in the 6.5x54 Mannlicher and 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. I've shot all but the 35 Whelan and really enjoyed them for hunting.

    Blown Primers in AR

You might try measuring the fired cases from your gun and your friend's, to verify that the chambers are not widely different. I measure just forward of the extraction groove. You could also try loading the fired case in your friend's rifle, and his in yours. Do not let the bolt slam seat the...

    CMP M1 for High Power?

A match grade upper for your AR lower would be the better way to go. Get at least a 1-8 twist barrel...1-7 is better. My old Colt HBAR, with 1-7 twist, match grade sights and trigger from Compass Engineering, Fla. has shot to 1000 yards with 80 grain bullets. You're in W. Ga....I'd contact...

    spotting or telescope?

Most of the Celestron/Meade scopes have a long focal length...F-10 or more in most cases. The traditional spotting scopes for shooting are about F-5 or F-6. I've tried my Meade 2045, F-10 with 4 inch mirror. With bright sunlight on the target, it's usable...can't honestly say 30 cal. holes at...
