    Mid Priced Usable Folder

I go pretty much everywhere for work with something made by either Benchmade or Spyderco in my pocket, and then a traditional slip-joint in the watch pocket (for apples and what-not). I'll throw in another vote for the griptillian line, but suggest the mini-grip (blade slightly under 3", a lot...

Anyone know of any penetration tests for a standard .45 Colt load?

    Choke for Hevi Shot?

In my experience less choke is better with Hevi-shot. I generally go down to IC or MOD at the most. I hear some folks even shoot cylinder bore. I shoot a Mossberg 835 for most of my waterfowling these days. I think there are recommendations on the Hevi-shot website as well. Wouldn't hurt...

45 Colt in a snub (and another who's tried WST?)

I don't know about Ruger only loads through a 450 - mine's the all stainless version, and even with an 8 gr load of Unique, I don't have as much control as I'd like. Instead, per Walkalong's suggestion above, I've been playing with AA#2. Last weekend I ran some Saeco 230 gr wadcutters over...

    Tactical stylus pen?

I don't know about tactical, but this stylus is quite a bit better than what I've been using, and the "tip" is a spring-loaded plastic nub. Regards, U

    Taurus Firing Pin

The firing pin return spring might be broken (or missing if the revolver is new to you). You only have to take off the grips and side plate, and remove the firing pin retaining pin to check. There are pretty good instructions on how to disassemble your revolver over in the Smithing section at...

Can .45WIN MAG be shot in a .45 Colt?

Nice article about loading 45 auto in Ruger Blackhawk conversion cylinders over at Handloads. The author mentions the possibility of converting a 45 ACP Blackhawk to fire .45 Win Mag. As previously mentioned, without a conversion to modify the cylinder (assuming you have a conversion...

Range Review: Tactical Solutions 2211 (1911) .22 Conversion

I have not shot any other conversions - I'm fairly isolated, and don't shoot with anyone else that has one. The 2211 seem to be constructed like a Marvel Unit 1, in that only a portion of the slide moves - I believe the difference is that you can actually "tighten" the Marvel using their...

    Which 22 Conversion?

I just picked up a Tactical Solutions 2211 - here's my range report and first impressions. Regards, U

Range Review: Tactical Solutions 2211 (1911) .22 Conversion

So, for a couple of years, I’ve been pining for a .22 conversion for a 1911 for a few different reasons. First and foremost, as a low-cost training alternative to .45 ACP hand loads, second as something I could carry around during grouse season, and finally as something my lady-friend wouldn’t...

    A minor concern

I clean mine with a shop vac in between powder changes, just to pick up whatever granules are caught in the nooks and crannies.

45 Colt in a snub (and another who's tried WST?)

Walkalong, Thanks for the suggestion - I'll keep an eye out for a can although all I seem to be able to find locally these days pistol-powder wise is WST, WSF, and Green Dot. I guess that's the reasoning for trying WST. Mostly I'm curious about trying to run bullets in the 250 gr range...

45 Colt in a snub (and another who's tried WST?)

I sincerely doubt it. I think what they mean is to stick to loads that run around 900 FPS in the load manuals (or standard pressure stuff). I have no interest in trying to run high pressure loads in this thing, I just want to chuck big hunks of lead at moderate velocities.

45 Colt in a snub (and another who's tried WST?)

I'd like to work up some lower end loads in .45 Colt for shooting in a 2" snub (a ported Taurus 450). The only guideline in the Taurus manual is to "keep it under 900 FPS." I've loaded for a Blackhawk in the past using mostly the well-traveled loads with Unique and 2400. At my disposal I've...

    spyderco S90V mule questions

It depends on what kind of sheath you want - but off the top, River City is making kydex for them, and there are quite a few folks that will do leather. There are a lot of good ideas for pretty simple home-brew kydex and leather sheaths over at the Spyderco forum if you want to do it yourself...

    Issue with 45 auto load,Help.

When I started reloading .45 auto, I'd previously only been loading revolver rounds, and had a bit of a time figuring out what taper crimp was sufficient, but not "too much." That said, I second the recommendation of gauging your loaded rounds, either with the intended barrel, or using...

Best .22LR suppressor for pistol, rifle, and subgun?

Tac makes both the Quest and the Diamond (both stainless / take-apart) although they don't show the quest as F/A rated. The Browning bottom-ejectors are sweet. I grew up shooting a Belgian take-down model, and I only lost the skin on my left palm once. I think you might have to have the...

    Going rate for a S&W model 37

I ran into what appears to be a very lightly used model 37, pinned barrel, flat thumb-piece, which if I'm reading Supica & Nahas right (without getting the serial number) should make it a pre-1966 pistol. Any idea what the going rate is for a like new in your area? S&N lists it as $425, LNIB...
