Anyone running a UTG quad rail gas block?

I may have to talk to the local gun shop and see if they have the tools for installing a free float handguard. It would cost me more in the tools to install than it would be worth to try install it myself.

Anyone running a UTG quad rail gas block?

I'm looking at ditching my single rail gas block for a quad rail and the UTG looks just about like all the others except it's half or less on the price. Does anyone have DIRECT experience with them? I like my MOE handguard but want a place to mount a laser that was given to me so I think this...

    Whitetail hunting 450 yards

Nothing wrong with taking that shot, IF and a big IF, you are up to the task. Almost any caliber from 25-06 on up can make that shot, including the 270 WSM. The biggest thing with long range shooting is learning to dope the wind. I'd suggest some flagging tape to be able to judge what the...

Looking for first deer rifle in 20 yrs... Help!

Since you are somewhat concerned with recoil, check out this recoil table. Notice it has the gun weight, bullet weight and muzzle velocity as well as recoil in ft/lb and recoil velocity. http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm This might give you an idea of what you'd be looking at...

Looking for first deer rifle in 20 yrs... Help!

One thing you may want to consider investing in is a Leadsled for extended shooting sessions, regardless of caliber that you select. Any gun that's over 7 1/2lbs, shooting a projectile less than 150 gr, at less than 2800 fps is going to be fairly soft recoiling. While I'm not a huge fan of the...

    Thoughts on this BUIS?

My only use for them would be for practice to make sure I am proficient and in the event that my Primary Arms red dot crapped out on me. Like I said, this is a range use and limited hunting weapon.

    Thoughts on low-cost AR optics

I've recently done a ton of research on low budget AR optics because I was looking for something for my A3. If you are looking strictly for A2 style optics, I'm not sure what to recommend. From what I have found, Primary Arms seems to have serviceable low budget optics for AR rifles. Anything...

    Thoughts on this BUIS?

Thanks for the comments, I was concerned if they were a total POS that should be avoided or not. My rail gas block is lower than the receiver height so it would definitely take a taller front sight.

Looking for first deer rifle in 20 yrs... Help!

Under $1000 is easy...lots of choices out there. I'm going to suggest a different caliber than .243 though for the ability to shoot heavier bullets. I feel that the .260 Rem or 7mm-08 are about as perfect of a deer caliber that you can get. Another good caliber that is harder to find is the...

Stevens Model 200 >>> Should I Get One?

Snakeman, did you happen to try and free float the forend on those XL7s? They have two pressure pillars right near the end of the forend that when removed, usually help increase the accuracy.

Stevens Model 200 >>> Should I Get One?

I second the Marlin XS-7. It has a better trigger and better fit and finish than the Stevens. They really are a bargain for what you get. Boyds also makes stocks for the Marlin XL/XS-7s so that is a non-issue.

So it looks like the 6mm Rem has quietly died...

The 6mm Rem and 257 Roberts were two great cartridges that were both killed off by the 243...the 257 has stuck around a little better than the 6mm though. A shame really...

    Rifle Scopes...

Check out the Burris Fullfield IIs that Natchez has on sale. IMO a 2-7x35 would be about perfect for the Mosin. It's not known as a highly accurate rifle in the first place. Target turrets on a Mosin is not needed and for what you pay for them you'd be better off spending the extra on ammo.
