Thoughts on this BUIS?

Being new to ARs I'm learning about all the do-dads and gadgets that you can throw on one. I'm looking for a set of economical BUIS to work on my A3 receiver with railed gas block. I see that most sets come setup for railed forends (I have a MOE handguard) but this one has a front sight for a railed gas block which is what I have. This is not a SHTF rifle, mainly a range toy and plinking rifle that may see some limited use on hogs.

I know you can drop a pile of cash on BUIS but that's not needed for my use, IMO. I'd rather spend the extra on reloading supplies for more range time. What do you guys see in these (if anything) that is inherently bad or would not be fine for occasional use.

Nothing wrong with those sights at all for your purposes. But which front sight to get depends on how tall your railed gas block is. Most of them take what are called "gas block height" front sights, but some of them are taller and take "rail height" front sights. If the railed gas block is real tall and is even with the top of the receiver, it is the latter.

Thanks for the comments, I was concerned if they were a total POS that should be avoided or not. My rail gas block is lower than the receiver height so it would definitely take a taller front sight.

From the description it sounds Chinese.

I'd avoid 'em if at all possible. I have the 600m KAC sights, and those are VERY expensive. Even with a standard fixed front sight, they still aren't all that accurate and have too much play to considered serious sights. In my opinion. They are truly backups only, but they look cool I guess, so a lot of rifles are coming with them.

What most soldiers did, ones in the know, they carried a carry handle tied off to their gear and just swapped it if they had to. The loss in zero at least would be consistent from shot to shot.

I have the backup rear on my M4, my defense rifle, but none of my other AR's. They aren't worth the cost, and to be honest, other than zeroing them, I've never really used them.

But if you don't mind a co-witness, those A2 rear sights that are just the sight, no carry handle, those work well. Probably best with an EoTech. Then they make a flip up A2 --I haven't used this one personally, but it looks like it MIGHT work, as in work as good as a fixed A2 but folds out of the way.

I think the best bang nowadays is to have an ACOG or reflex or whatever, then have one of those small Trijicon or JP J-Points mounted in front of the scope or sight --it'll be low enough to be out of the way, and if the scope fails, just pull it off and use the smaller reflex sight.

Lots of options. Just be leary of the backup sights. I've used a few, front and back, the 600m KAC rears have been the best, but still lacking compared to a real A2 sight assy.

My only use for them would be for practice to make sure I am proficient and in the event that my Primary Arms red dot crapped out on me. Like I said, this is a range use and limited hunting weapon.

If you can't afford better - what the hey? Get 'em. But you will eventually be dissatisfied with them based on the quality and then whatever you up-grade to will actually have cost you an additional $55.00 to absorb the cost of this one. I passed on selling this fella's (importer) parts a long time ago for that very reason.

A thing which one should ask one's self in all things firearms related is: "Will I or someone close to me have to really depend on this; part, ammo, component - whatever at some point and not have an alternative handy?"

For putzing about at the range you still have to consider things like: if the (your considered component here) fails, did I just waste a round trip to the range? Yeah, I know folks will say no because they brought other things to shoot - but does that really make it acceptable? If so, again, what the hey?

Get the Magpul backup iron sights! About $25 more but american made and matches your MOE hand guards. I know they won't be aligned for a railed gas block but a railed scope riser attached to the gb with the MBUIS on top would solve that. You can find guys selling the standard mil-spec buis on ebay for cheap. They work really good and you would most likely be buying it from a service member who is getting rid of their gear after they get out of the military, or from a supply guy making extra cash on the governments dime.

I suspect these are UTG, and are available from other brick and mortar stores. They will more likely refund your money if dissatisfied, ebay e-tailers generally laugh when their backdoor supplied junk fails and you want Customer Service.

MBUS are polymer and cannot be mounted onto a railed gas block.

You're exactly where I didn't want to be stuck, trying to economically get sights on an AR. Since I was building mine, I finally installed a GI type FSB and then cut down a used M4 carry handle rear, it was $32, from somebody who legally purchased it from the Ft. Hood DRMO. Not everything on the market is stolen, there's a huge paper chain of out of pocket ownership. It's called hand receipts.

In your case, the railed block is installed, search Brownells or Midway, I believe they sell them, too. At least you'll get a retailer who has a phone number to reach them, and is committed to making you happy.
