When I walk into my local Sportsmans Warehouse there's an entire wall of pics of people with their kills. Being proud of a successful hunt isn't a bad thing.
I did get a reply back today with a counter offer but chose not to accept it. The gun was a used Savage 12 vlp. They were asking $779 for it. I offered $700 and they countered with $739.

Yep I think twist is way more important. I have a Ruger American Compact for my daughter that has an 18 inch barrel. It seems to shoot the 80-100 gainers the best.

I use the Sierra gameking 85 hpbt and the starting load of h414/win 760 which is about 40 grains. Nice light load and shoots bugholes.
This is with her Ruger American Compact which is a really light gun and she's really sensitive to recoil, but she shot about 50 of those loads last weekend...
Thanks Geno, I'll put those ZMax's on the list. And yep the 1-9 was one of the things that swayed me to the Ruger. I wasn't sure about the 18 inch barrel, but I don't think it will affect MV enough to matter. We'll probably limit shots on deer to 200 yds anyway.
The funny thing is I've never...
Yep I see what you're saying AllAround. I took some 60gr and 85gr loads to the range this morning. Here are the results from some mid range loads. I didn't want to push max since i'm still playing with OAL.
Here is my best group with the 60gr HP
And here is the 85gr HPBT
Now I...
Nope. The Corelokts are much more pointy. The first part of the bullet that is 243 caliber is way back close to the case mouth. The sierra carries the full caliber width out farther toward the point.

Yep you're reading my mind TXCookie.
I have some 60 and 85 gr. sierras that I loaded up last night. I'll be testing them at the range tomorrow, but yeah I think at least for this year we'll just hunt with the Core Lokts.
Still need some loads for coyotes, plus I've never loaded for 243...
Yep that's the plan for the next trip to the range. I couldn't find any brass here locally so I needed to burn through a few rounds first so I had some empty brass :p

My 14 year old daughter decided she wants to deer hunt year so I picked up a new Ruger American Compact in .243. Fit and finish are a little rough, but realistically in a $350 rifle it's all about function and it passes in that department.
The trigger is decent (like an accutrigger) and breaks...
Always wanted a S&W 3913 and for some reason never got one but I stumbled across this the other night and had to bring it home.
