    98/29 Persian Mauser reloading question

I recently purchased a Persian 98/29 Brno Mauser in very good condition. My question is- can PRVI PARTIZAN 8MM (.322) 175gr PSPBT bullets be safely fired through it? I am concerned about the bullet diameter because I hade heard that Mausers can accept 0.318 I plan to test a few loads using 39...

Persian Mauser- need opinion, advice, etc...

Thanks for taking the time I have thought about this long and hard and since deciding that this will not be sold in my lifetime I am going to have some limited restoration/preservation work done by a pro. The guy who is probably going to work on it will be instructed to 1- keep all original...

Persian Mauser- need opinion, advice, etc...

thanks- metal is in pristine condition as is the bore, and all numbers match. I think I'll leave as is- re. ammo, found plenty out there, new production and surplus. I had no problem finding brand new dies, brass, and 8mm bullets- cases use regular large rifle primers and IMR4064 is the...

Hello all, I recently purchased a Persian Mauser and want to ask: First, it this were your's- would you even consider doing any kind of restoration on the furniture and would doing ANY restoration work on the stock diminish its value? Finally- what do you think it would bring if I ever decide...

anyone seen hair-thin ring of trimmed brass at the bullet neck just after seating?

thanks everyone for your comments and helpful information... I am using Hornady New Dimension dies in .300wsm and .270win I chamfer and de-burr every case before loading. I don't think I have set the die for a crimp at all but if it helps it happens when seating takes a little more effort...

anyone seen hair-thin ring of trimmed brass at the bullet neck just after seating?

I have only been re-loading a couple of months... I have noticed on at least 2 occasions that right after I seat a bullet in the case when inspect the cartridge [on some cases] there is a hair-thin piece of loose brass -that judging by how it looks- looks like it is coming off the edge of the...

Berger VLD 168 g hunting- OAL issue- your experience

Exactly Gamestalker- if I seat close to the lands the OAL ends up way too long to cycle through the magazine... I will be shooting some this weekend and will see how they group when seated at the Berger manual recommended OAL [which happens to be SAAMI max] ...and report the results.

Berger VLD 168 g hunting- OAL issue- your experience

thanks for the reply I have not fired any of the Berger VLD's through my rifle yet- Guess I will try loading to SAAMI recommended OAL and see how they do with the different powders I have on hand... would hate to waste the bullets since I only have one 300 cal. rifle ...

Berger VLD 168 g hunting- OAL issue- your experience

Just got a box of 168 grain Berger VLD hunting bullets to load for my .300 WSM. I have used the Hornady OAL gage to measure these bullets and to find where I should seat in relation to the bore's lands. I loaded a few at 0.040 and 0.50 off the lands. The OAL comes to much longer than will fit in...

    New to Reloading question

here is what Hornady Tech support said to this question: It is ok to do this but you should back off 5% from your current load and work the load back up with the "other" bullet as it may have a higher drag factor so you will reach max. pressure with the same load data but before you did with...
