It definitely isn't time to party yet. I still think too many senators consider magazine capacity restrictions to be "reasonable" regulations. And even if the universal background check is the only thing to make it to the Senate floor (something I don't oppose in principle), there is a danger...
Based on your criteria (warm and gun-friendly), I'd go with Texas, Florida, and Tennessee in no particular order.
All of these states are pro-gun. Florida and Tennessee have two of the best carry permits in terms of reciprocity. Tennessee allows open carry.
None of these states have an income...
This site was created to help combat the "assault weapon" propaganda. It has gone viral, so hopefully it is having an impact.
I know some people dislike the argument that assault weapons aren't machine guns, because they believe the Second Amendment safeguards a right to both. However...
My guess is the Colt had a heavier buffer. I believe Colt ships their carbine-length gas system rifles with "H" buffers, which are heavier than the "carbine" buffers a lot of manufacturers use.
For defense inside the home, I think a handgun has some real advantages. If you have kids, for example, you might want to have a hand free. It's hard to operate an AR or shotgun one-handed. In that scenario, my choice would be a suppressed .45-caliber handgun. Probably an HK, but a Glock would...

There is likely going to be a fight in Congress. How fierce, only time will tell. What Obama can accomplish via executive order is limited, protestations here and elsewhere notwithstanding.
Keep the pressure on your legislators in Congress, because that's where the battle will be fought.
I will happily transfer my privately sold firearms through an FFL (thereby helping to support my local gun shop) if the gun prohibitionists agree to remove suppressors and SBRs from the NFA.
I think this video is a red herring. The gun in the trunk was a shotgun. The guns taken into the school were an AR-15 and at least a couple of handguns. Using an AR-15 in the school doesn't preclude the police finding a shotgun in the trunk.
Skribs:
I can see where you're coming from on the right of fire, but the point we're trying to make is that the AR-15's rate of fire is based on the skill of the operator, whereas the M-16's rate of fire is decided by the auto sear's design limits. In trying to come up with a realistic rate of...
