Tennessee Senate Approves Parking Lot Guns Bill

I guess I'd have to read the Bill. I would think the BEST it could do was.. protect a person from being charged criminally for possessing a weapon. You would probably still be fired for violating company policy. example.. it's NOT illegal to call in sick. A company can fire you for excessive non excused absences. I would expect the new proposal would just keep an individual from getting a double hit.. fired and prosecuted.

From the House/Senate Bill:
This bill, as described below, allows a person with a valid handgun carry permit to transport and store a firearm or ammunition in the person's privately-owned vehicle in public or private parking areas, not including the grounds or property of a single-family detached residence.

Generally, under present law:

(1) Any business or government entity may prohibit the possession of weapons by any person on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of such entity;
(2) It is a Class A misdemeanor for any person to possess or carry a firearm in or on the grounds of any municipal, county or state recreational property; and
(3) It is a Class E felony for any person to possess or carry a firearm on any public or private school property or bus.

Notwithstanding the above provisions, this bill authorizes a holder of a valid handgun carry permit, unless expressly prohibited by federal law, to transport and store a firearm or ammunition in the person's privately-owned vehicle while on or utilizing any public or private parking area if:

(1) The vehicle is parked in a location where it is permitted to be; and
(2) The firearm or ammunition being transported or stored in the vehicle:
(A) Is kept from ordinary observation if the person is in the motor vehicle; or
(B) Is kept from ordinary observation and locked within the trunk, glove box, or interior of the person's vehicle or a container securely affixed to the vehicle if the person is not in the vehicle.

Ok, what does this part mean:
Notwithstanding the above provisions
Does that negate this part:
(1) Any business or government entity may prohibit the possession of weapons by any person on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of such entity;
or does it continue to allow them to prohibit possession. I THINK it says that they can say you cannot carry in the business, but that the parking lot is OK as long as you qualify and follow the rules.

Hummm...Just noticed that it says "a firearm", does that mean that you cannot have more than one in your car?

You work for your employer at their discretion. By accepting the the money they give you for the hours worked, you are accepting their rules. If you do not like it you are free to quit at anytime.

Hey Walkalong...I though that bill was currently in the Alabama legislature? Do you know how the proposed bill would impact state employees parking on government property? Thanks!

True, but he did say nuclear power plants, by which I assume he meant power of the controlled sort. :)
There is one of those too...HFIR. It is a controlled reactor that is used to produce and cool neutrons to thermal energies. 80ish MW of waste heat.
