Ouch...tossed/thrown packages of bagged bullets (even if in a bigger box) puts a whole new emphasis on bullet inspection. Bullets packed tight in a box sure seems a better option than loose in a bag.
Seeing more and more bullet suppliers ship in plastic bags. Some jacketed soft point and jacketed hollow point bullets seem to be pretty banged up by the time they arrive at my mailbox. Should I worry about accuracy/performance if there are a few dings in the exposed lead of this type of...
The safety is inside the trigger guard. I will see if I can talk him into breaking down the gun to look for other identification marks and also to get some good pictures.
Forgot to mention it is an autoloader. The info was sent to me by a friend and am working with him on pictures. He just sent more info and states there is an RR inside a circle on one side of the barrel and MOD on the other side right at the very base of the barrel. As soon as he sends some...
Trying to find info on a shot gun with the following info stamped on the barrel.
Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co, Browning Pat Oct 9, 1900, 1902 and 1903 - Remington works Ilion NY. There is no gauge stamp but looks like a 12ga. Has variable choke and 'muzzle brake' (?) very...
Hmmm...a .38 S&W. Could be...will have to investigate further now that I have a little more information. Guess I could have lost a hand or finger back when I was 10 or 12 and shooting this thing. I think Old Fuff was right...leave this thing retired and pass it along to my son...with the...
Would have only one, Unique, if it was readily available whenever I needed some but it has become as scarce as other powders in our area. I use Unique for 4 handgun calibers and 1 shotgun, that I use for Trap, so I go through powder quite rapidly. I pick up whatever I can find that will give me...
I have a H&R American Double action, inherited from my Dad who got it from his Dad who got it from his Dad...been in the family a long time. I was told it was a .32 so I shot .32 S&W Shorts (80 gr) in it for years as a young boy out plinking in the fields. Only later did I stop and wonder why...
Thanks Blue. Previous post warned me not to start too low because of being semi-jacketed bullets so I started about in the middle of all my loading sources. Guess I got lucky with this load and got a good fps average. However, a dozen more of each load will tell me if I need to make...
Ultimately ended up with two test recipes that I think are OK. #1 recipe = 9.4 grs of Accurate No5 (avg 960fps) and #2 recipe = 7.5 grs of Unique (avg 1030fps). OAL was 1.225. I was using a full size Springfield 1911. I've only tested 5 of each recipe so far as I had some issues seating WLP...
Thanks a lot. I think from this and the other great responses I received I now have enough to at least get started. I can make up a few rounds from a couple different recipes and run them across the chrono and compare to some factory ammo I have.
Thank you. I picked up on the powder drop differences right away when standard vs magnum primers were involved but when the same primers were being referenced I was stumped. While components were/are in short supply I picked up some Hornady and Nosler bullets but did not find any Speer at the...
OAL is another area that I have to address. One manual seems to deal in minimums and the other in maximums. How do I determine where to start? On the powder website issue - I have checked the Alliant website (same for both Unique and Blue Dot) but all of their test data points to Speer bullets...
While researching recipe for my 9mm, Hdy 124gr, XTP bullets I found a huge variance in Blue Dot and Unique powder charges between Hornday 8th Ed and Lee 2nd Ed.
Unique - Hornady states - 4.0 - 5.0 while Lee states 5.1 - 5.8.
Blue Dot - Hornady states - 4.8 - 6.6 while Lee states 7.0 - 7.9...
Thanks. This is a big help for a novice just getting started. Been shotshell reloading since the 80's but decided to try reloading metallic when factory loads disappeared. My problem was that I wanted to start metallic reloading when all the reloading components started to disappear. :-)
