    Old 9mm brass update….here goes

Ok, not as bad, but that is still very close to +P territory for a 16" barrel. Personally, I would have started with lower loads. Also changing too many variables (different powders in different brass) when troubleshooting isn't the best approach. It's best to change only one variable per...

    Old 9mm brass update….here goes

Hold on a second. 9mm +P is loaded to 1200 fps. You are getting over 1300. That is WAY too high. If you have a reason for going that high you should at least work your rounds up and start with a load around 1100. Even that is on the high side as a starting load. Most factory rounds...

The myth on not saving when hand loading 9mm ammo.

No sure why you think it was off topic I presented the case for just how much you can save reloading 9mm when using appropriate numbers. The misrepresentation is when folks pay 10 cents a primer when you can get CCI for less and Fiocchi or Ginex for .062 and trying to factor in labor costs...

The myth on not saving when hand loading 9mm ammo.

I'm seeing some misrepresentations in this thread. Either you enjoy reloading (i.e. it's a fun hobby) or you probably shouldn't be doing it. If it's a hobby, then you shouldn't attribute labor costs, otherwise, you might as well pay someone to go to the range for you and shoot for you. Even...

    How much brass to save

I still have plenty of primers that I bought for $32 per brick. With that being said, I just picked up another 5K for $70 per brick (shipped). I use RMR that I purchase in bulk for just under 10 cents per round. Powder is less than 2 cents per round. You can get Ginex, and Fiocchi primers...

    Range Panda Bullet Feeder Adjustment.

That does look pretty good. So the red knob adjusts the height of the inside plate (what would have been the shims on the MBF one)? I've had some issues with TC and HP bullets (1 out of 100 turned wrong) and it's due to the narrower margin between the base and nose. Looks like this could...

    Old 9mm brass update….here goes

That is not the same thing as the Glock/guppy bulge. I had the same issue that LiveLife's picture showed with 357 sig and 40 unless I roll sized them first.

    How much brass to save

Only if you don't buy in bulk. For me, 9mm costs me under $10 per 50 and that's using either RMR nukes or Precision delta V1s (i.e. a high quality, accurate, expanding HP). I don't think you could get a box of 50 of something comparable for less than $20. Even the cheap range rounds seem...

    Budget chronograph?

I had picked one of those up about 4 years ago with a coupon for about $47. It works, but you kind of also need a tripod and it's somewhat of a pain to set up (for outdoors you need to wait till you can cross the firing line). Not sure if it will even work indoors as I was never able to use it...

    Old 9mm brass update….here goes

I would go with any undersized die. Like: LEE 9MM LUGER UNDERSIZED CARBIDE SIZING DIE I personally use Dillon dies. The resized case should look like a coke bottle. It's under sizing the case mouth. I never have setback issues. Which sizing die are you currently using?

why does Hornady not sell primers

Why do you think I'm buying primers now? I loaded up when things were looking bad and have enough to last me 4-5 years, probably longer. Doesn't mean I can't call out the BS when I see it.

why does Hornady not sell primers

Primers are extraordinarily cheap to make. They were making money selling them for well under $25 4 years ago. The components and cost to make primers has not tripled. Keep in mind you can still buy factory 9mm for around $12 per 50. It should be going for 30-40 if primer costs (and the raw...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Your weighing method is perfectly fine. Since your failure rate was 1 in 60, I would try to disassemble at least 75 rounds just to rule out any over charges. It's sounding like it could be the brass. The only other thing I can think of is crimp/bullet setback. I think you mentioned...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Your process is sound. 1020-1050 fps sound perfectly fine. I would still recommend disassembling any remaining rounds from that batch. I'd weight the charges just as a sanity check to rule out an overcharge. While doing so, check the cases to see if you see any signs of the glock bulge...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Yeah, 1 in 60 is both too much and too little at the same time. Obviously too much and too dangerous to keep going without pinpointing the issue, but probably too few to disassemble and weigh rounds and find another problem case. Considering this happened in 2 different guns I still think...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

For clarification, you shot 600 of these rounds and most of them were ok? Just a few ended up like the pictures you showed? How many of the rounds functioned properly? How many were like your pictures? Depending on the answer I'd suspect those were double charged or didn't enter the barrel...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

It's not that sensitive. You should be ok at 1.12, even 1.10 with 4.7gn of CFE Pistol. If it gets set back to 1.07 then you might have problems. 4.7 is pretty close to the starting charge for CFE pistol and a 124gn FMJ projectile. I assume you purchased the CFE Pistol in a new...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Very unlikely that is the cases. I've used CFE pistol and there is no way 4.7gn behind a 124grn bullet seated at 1.15 would do that. Something else is wrong. My first guess is that's not 4.7gn. Second guess would be bullet setback. Do you have a calibration weight to confirm the...

I wonder how many primers you can fill from one package of the primer compound.
