    For Taurus M94 owners

Yeah, thanks everyone for the input. I think I will try to have them just replace this one with a completely different revolver. Wish me luck. . .

    What's a good measure for off-hand accuracy?

"I'm almost able to get 10 - 15 full power rounds inside a three inch circle at 15 yards." I'd say that was pretty good right there, and of course with practice will get even better. How long have you been shooting it this way? For comparison, the late, great Ed McGivern could put 5 d.a...

Full-auto conversion of Ruger Blackhawk revolver

rcmodel Actually I was referring to an ancient wheelock that had a triangular-shaped bore and fired a similar-shaped bullet. I don't recall exactly why this shape was experimented with, but obviously it didn't catch on. But good catch on the Dardick. If I had thought of it, I would have...

Full-auto conversion of Ruger Blackhawk revolver

Since my comment on this subject drew so much interest, I thought I'd start a new thread. I have only seen mention of the Vietnam-era conversion of a Blackhawk revolver in .30 carbine in a couple of places, one in an old Guns and Ammo magazine, where it was a passing curiosity, and in two other...

    Blackhawk .30 carbine

Sorry, misread your post. I thought you had converted one. Since this seems like such a popular topic, I am going to start a new thread on the subject with pictures.

    For Taurus M94 owners

Kind of hard to notice such minute details in non-sunlight with the gun covered in oil, grease, fouling and storage rust. How would I know about the sights? The trigger? Besides, I didn't think it would be necessary to bring a micrometer and magnifying glass with me to the shop. The last Taurus...

    For Taurus M94 owners

I recently purchased a new M94 with a five inch barrel. Yup, that d.a. trigger pull is hard, but that is not my concern here. I wish to ask other owners of this weapon if they could check a few things on there's so I can make a comparison with mine, as I'm a little concerned about a few things...

    Cabelas hawken-hottest load consistently used?

I'm not telling you to do this by any means, just an interesting historical fact, but in a book that I recently got from Track of the Wolf about the guns and gear of the mountain men, some men would use loads using 200 grains of powder in their Hawkens. Not with round ball, but with conicals...

Any suggestions for target-grade auto in .32 wadcutter?

Thanks! That's just what I'm looking for. I love the Walther. I wonder if the MP-95 would be as accurate? When it comes to high-grade target guns is the old adage true, you get what you pay for? If the Walther is a bit more accurate, I'm curious just what fraction of an inch that extra...

tenn. poor boy. my favorite flinter

Seriously now, where Poor Boy rifles really that common? I rarely see one at antique auctions and such. Of course, that could be because they were used until they were "worn out" (or at least replaced) so few exist today, or are they more prized , being owned by the common man and used to...

Any suggestions for target-grade auto in .32 wadcutter?

I realize that technically this question belongs in the competition section but I feel that I would probably get more responses posting it here. I am interested in a high-grade semi-auto target pistol in .32 long (wadcutter). It seems that all of the brands/models that I've known about over the...

Swords used in battle:why no chipping?

I realize that sword fights aren't accurately portrayed in most movies, but wouldn't the edge of a sword used in battle be horribly chipped? One would think that this would be the case, but I have examined swords actually used in battle yet few actually have major chipping. Defending a heavy...

    Open top revolver durability

Can an owner of an open top Colt percussion revolver expect a decrease in accuracy over time, such as say after 500 shots have been fired or so?

How did 19th century "Shootist" get so good?

You know, it's interesting to read the posts about life on the farm as a kid. Such a childhood probably does more for shooting skill than anything else. I recall reading the words of a W.W.I era US general who stated that while our technology of the time may not have been equivalent with what...

Powder valley took away primers on website

So the way I uderstand it, not only are primers no longer available, but powder and bullets are also getting hard to come by? Heck, we can't even go back to flintlocks because of new laws concerning the sale of lead to "non-commercial individuals", at least here in Michigan. So basically, there...

How did 19th century "Shootist" get so good?

For years I've read about 19th century examples of marksmanship by our western heroes (and villains). I'm not talking about hip-shooting moving mounted men at 50 yards, I mean real, practical shooting as well as some of the more amazing (and believable) stuff, such as Hickok and Hardin's skill...

Black Powder Substitutes and Users Deserve Respect

"You really need to get a hobby or something. " Apparently I already have one. It's explaining to individuals offering opinion as fact how and why they are wrong. Now please tell me how stupid I am, maybe insult my genetic makeup or call my mother a name. Your personal attacks only prove...

Black Powder Substitutes and Users Deserve Respect

"No it ain't :O), you don't get around much do ya?" Yeah I do, and probably more than you. I'm quoting mid-eighteenth century sources, using the EXACT SAME oxidizers as manufacturers are today. And as for those who would call me foolish, you have yet to show me where so-called synthetic...

Black Powder Substitutes and Users Deserve Respect

"Black Powder is not more authentic that Pyrodex? Check with the Chinese and the Spanish that took it from them... :O) Or did I misunderstand you?" Well, my point is that black powder substitutes have been in use almost as long as black powder has. I'm just saying that b.p. substitutes...

Nitrocellulose laquer and cigaratte paper cartridges.

I would think that just about any of the medium to fast burning pistol powders would work best but I have a hunch that even Hodgen 810 or 5010 would work (almost) as well. I'll make up a batch with a medium burning rifle powder and see how that works.
