    Ammo for Open-Top Revolver?

Have an 1872 Open-Top revolver in .38 spl on order. What ammo is ok to shoot it in? Was thinking about using Buffalo Bore wadcutters at 850 fps but still meeting .38 spl. pressures. Is anything ok as long as it rated .38 spl? Have seen stories about the guns being stretched by ammo pressure...

Looking for a semi-automatic shotgun in 20 gage. Leaning to Remington because of quality and price, but would like more information on any of these semi-autos if you are familiar with them. Thanks. PS. Will be used for hunting mostly with 26 or 28" barrell.

    # of Buckshot Needed for Effective Kill of Deer

Is there some general guidelines on how many buckshot hits on average are needed to effectively kill a deer? I have seen deer killed hit by as few as 3 pellets, but always considered that to be a lucky kill, and too few to be reliable. Assume buckshot pellet size will have some effect on this.

Largest Animal Killed With a 20 Gage?

Always used a 12 gage whenever I needed a shotgun. Have started using a 20 gage for less recoil, noise, and gun weight. Never known anybody to have used the 20 gage for any large game, so I'm curious as to what big game the round can take. Besides the animal, I'd like to know the size...

    20 Gauge # 3 Buckshot Used?

Has anyone actually used # 3 Buckshot 20 Gage for hunting? If so what were the largest animals killed and approximate distance of shot? I have never known anyone to use 20 gage for other than small game. Their lighter weight is an attraction. Mine seems to pattern # 3 Buck ok out to 50...

    Charter Arms "On Duty"

Didn't see any reviews on this model. This is Charter Arm's semi-concealed hammer model with a 3-finger rubber grip, 2" barrel, and weight of 12 oz. I was concerned about possible regrets after getting it, but some decent review on Charter products and their lifetime warranty convinced me to...

.22 Mag Shot Is Not Enough for Timber Rattler

Just had encounter with a 5' Timber Rattler. Shot it twice with .22 mag shot shell. There was no visual effect on the snake that we could tell. Only when we switched to my daughter's .38 spl shot could we tell the snake was effected by the round. Finally killed it with a .357 to the head...

Does anyone know what calibers of rifles or muskets and pistols the Spanish Conquistadors typically used? Am under the impression they were in the .69 -75 caliber size but cannot find anything to back that up.

Chart for Ranking Penetration of Various Rifle Calibers?

Is there a chart or information somewhere that ranks the various rifle calibers in terms of penetration ability? Know this would be somewhat dependent on bullet type powder, and the media being penetrated, but assuming the variables were standardized, how would the various calibers rank with...

    No Confidence in Small Guns!

Have owned or shot several small guns from aluminum-framed bodyguards with 2 finger grips to tiny .22 lr revolvers (which may need tweezers to reload!). None of these dimunitive cute little pistols (often denoted as being for concealed carry) inspire me to actually use them for self-defense...

For those who have done it, is any difference between shooting the original old Colts vs New Colts vs the Replicas made by Uberti, Pietta, etc.? I'm primarily interested in the difference between the newer 2nd & 3rd generation Colts vs the Replicas? Any reason to pay 2-3 times more to get a...
