Ithaca Model 16 Gauge - Age?

Interchangable barrels started after serial #855,000 which occured in 1963. There's an Ithaca forum over at shotgunworld with lots of good info on these sweet handling 37s.

Rem. 870 VS. Mossberg 500 (pump)

Amen; user reversible safety on the 870 would be nice. Why is it that the moss. is often touted as being light weight because of it's aluminum reciever. I've taken to recording the weight of my shotguns the last few yrs, & was struck by how overweight my 20 ga moss. seemed to be. A 26 in...

    Does the Mossberg 500/590 rattle?

Of the 3 moss. 500's I've owned in the last 30 yrs, both 12 ga. rattled noticeably more than any of my other pumps, but it was the 20 ga that bordered on the ridiculous. Even zipped it into the case, you could wiggle it, & everyone could tell which gun I'd brought along. The cause appears to...

whats the best deal you ever got on a new gun?

Back when I worked sporting goods at Walmart, it was possible to cherry pick some sweet deals ahead of the customers. Guess my best score was a marlin 94S in 44 mag for $75.00 Also snagged a Rem. 1187 premier 20 ga for $180.00

.22 magnum according to Bill Jordan

I remember reading Mr. Jordan's view of the 22 mag. several years ago, & instantly recalled my first encounter with this round. When I was a teen in the 70's my dad came home with a cheap single action revolver with both cylinders (ala Ruger convertible). 4 5/8 bbl. One day I'm plinking at...

    HELP" Left Hand Safety?

Got a nice clean JC Higgins model 20 12ga pump, & would like to switch to lefty safety so I can get a little more use out of it. Finding one online has proved much harder than with my Win. M12, or Ithaca 37. Is this something a smith could fabricate economicly enough to make this worth while...

    JC Higgins model 20 safety

I've got a JC Higgins model 20 12ga that don't seem to have seen much use in its 50 odd years. Has anyone switched one of these to a left hand safety? I can't find one online, & was wondering if any smiths out there have ever tried to fabricate one. thanks -Z

    37 vs 870

During what span of years did the 37 use a tang safety? My oldest is a 52, with crossbolt. Have handled a rem. 17 which the ithaca was derived from, & could swear they were also crossbolt safetys.

    J.C. Higgins guns

I've got a higgins 20 made around 1952. The term overbuilt springs quickly to mind. This thing is built like a tank & would make a formidable weapon whether it was loaded or not. Of coarse the upside of all that extra weight is that percieved recoil is low even with the rock hard 54 yr. old...
