Long eye relief or standard scope

I'd like some comments about the pros and cons of a forward mounted long eye relief scope position (ala scout rifle) versus a normally mounted scope and standard eye relief. I'm trying to decide if I want a scout style rifle or a conventional rifle either semi-auto or bolt. Thanks. Red

    Why use +P ammo?

I've often wondered why some folks seek to use +P ammo in a self-defense concealed carry weapon. Won't a .38 special grievously injure an opponent? How about 9mm? Or what about .45ACP, and on and on? I'm sure that there is someone out there trying to figure out to CC a 500 S&W. There seems...

    Holster for a Taurus 627

Hi, I have a Taurus 627 Tracker in .357 with a 4" barrel. I'm looking for an OWB holster, preferably in Kydex or other synthetic material as a woods set-up. Anyone know who makes one as a standard item? I can have a custom rig made but would like to keep the costs in check. TIA Red

    Remington 870 ?s

I have an 870 that was purchased new in 1955 or 1956. It is about 90 to95% condition. I have no particular sentimental attachment to it so I'm wondering if I would be better off modding it with a sight and a light and a shorter barrel for in home self-defense or; should I sell it and just buy...

Attention MODs - possible airline transport sticky

I read an interesting article on proper transport of weapons on the airplane. I'm attaching the link for review and if deemed accurate and factual enough that you might arrange to post it as a Sticky. http://www.wikihow.com/Travel-on-Airplanes-With-a-Gun Ralph

    Interesting outlook...Navy Yard shootings.

The Navy Yard shooting this past week was another senseless attack on innocent people going about their normal daily lives. Most often the GUN is held up as the villain. This author has a different perspective; one that I find very cogent...

    Sabot for handgun ammo??

Anyone aware of using a sabot and sub-caliber projectile in handgun ammo? I don't have any particular use for such a system but I am curious. I can imagine a .17 slug in a .357mag or a .44mag. It would be fun to experiment and see what velocities and muzzle energy could be obtained.

Is Wayne Lapierre the right guy?

One has to wonder if Wayne Lapierre the right guy to represent supporters of the Second Amendment? His recent appearance on The Hill, with his bodyguards, and his failure to get his facts in order seems to exhibit over confidence and a lack of connection with the common man. Here is a...

    LaserMax guide rod laser...?

I've an opportunity to get a LaserMax guide rod laser for my Sig P229 in 40 S&W and I'm curious if it has proved reliable or not? Also is accuracy out to about 30 feet acceptable? I did a search on the Lasermax and read lots of stories on lasers in general. I'm interested in specifics on this...

    Lead Ballast....9mm?

Tonight I was watching a program on TV called "Extreme Yachts" shown on the Travel Channel. In one of the custom boats being built, the yard manager at Northern Marine of Anacortes, WA. cited the 60,000 lbs of ballast used in their yacht. Then he pulled up a plastic bucket showing it filled with...

    What Frame Size?

I've been looking at a .357 mag pistol by Taurus with a 4" barrel. It has barrel porting and is a seven shot revolver. Its a model 627. Can someone tell me how this revolver compares to a S&W and what frame size it would be? It would help me to find a suitable holster as there are far more...

What Auto Shotgun would you suggest?

I'm in the market for a basic semi-auto shotgun that I will use it the Home Defense scenario. I already have a Remington 870 and do not wish to go that route; I'm interested in an auto. I'd like it to have a 18" to 20" barrel, extended magazine tube and be a simple auto without all the bells...

Pros or Cons on Hornady or Dillon presses

I'm thinking about handloading once again. I used to own a Dillon press and was quite happy with it. Recently, I've been looking at a Hornady LNL AP progressive press. There is a lot there that I like. I'm interested in comments, pros or cons with either system. If you've experience with...

    Tommy Theis Holsters...Very fast service!

Today I received the holster I ordered from Tommy Theis. Amazingly, just 6 days after I placed my order. To start off, Tommy answered my initial questions within an hour of my sending him a question via his web site. Later that afternoon I placed my order; that was Wednesday 16 November. As I...

    MIM...Fact or Fiction

Anyone who has read the posts on this forum has heard the bashing of MIM parts. Claims made by some would have you believe they are the spawn of the devil; or worse. But I want to know if these claims are fact or fiction. Are MIM parts failure prone? Do they not function properly? What parts...

    Mernickle Holsters?

I'm in the market for a full rig; belt, holster, & mag carrier. I like the looks of the Mernickle concealed carry system: http://www.mernickleholsters.com/pssys/ps6sys1.html It looks well made and I especially like how high the pistol rides over the belt. Does anyone have personal...

    TSA explosive sniffing

Folks, I've read recently that the TSA is going to start implementing the "Sniffing/Testing" for explosives residue at airports as part of their screening procedures as a result of capturing the "jockey-shorts bomber." My question: Is the normal washing/bathing process adequate to remove such...
