    Why are Canadians So Anti-Gun?

Canada is not anti gun. Our major media is definitely left of center leaning so if you read articles or watch news clips you will generally get an anti gun bias. And, anytime they ask for peoples opinions about guns they usually talk to someone in Toronto or one of the Major Eastern cities here...

Enough about bears, how about cougars?

Lots of cougar attacks recorded over the years. http://www.cougarinfo.org/attacks2.htm http://www.cougarinfo.org/attacks3.htm

    870 Forend Removal

Here are a few videos that might help you through the process. They are for the express but I am assuming the process should be the same for the Wingmaster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57V28rLkA0E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il-QkpZVn1w&feature=related...

    Ammunition Costs

"Try some inflation calculations, to see what ammo HAS cost in the past. The year I turned 16 and could finally legally hunt alone, was 1959. I clearly recall asking my Dad for money to buy one box of 12-gauge shells, these being the rock-bottom, low-brass paper hulls with fiber wads etc. The...

    Ammunition Costs

It's funny how the Fed says inflation is under control yet the cost of everything is going up. US Interest rates have been lowered considerably over the last couple of weeks to bail out Wall Street, expect to see ammo and everything else continue to get more and more expensive as Inflation...

What is the most dangerous predator?

I have no hesitation to say in North America it would be the Polar Bear. They show no fear and if you are in their territory, you are food. Unlike other bears that will generally not bother you unless you startle them, they have cubs or are protecting a kill, the polar bear will hunt you...

Surviving Gunshot Wounds In The Old West

Maggots from the blowfly were the wound cleaning first choice of many Civil War doctors if I'm not mistaken. They apparently did an excellent job of just eating the rotten flesh and leaving behind the healthy tissue. This greatly reduced infection and gangrene resulting in fewer amputations and...

Buying a safe in the near future? You'll probably want to see this.

I don't think anyone would question that you get what you pay for. I bought the 350 dollar Brinks safe from Costco. The thing weighs about 400 pounds empty, you can add another 100 to that with the guns and ammo inside. My guess is, unless you go advertising to everyone that you have allot of...

    WWB -- Light Primer Strikes?

I have the same problem with my Taurus 24/7 in .45. The gun shoots flawlessly with factory ammo but I have had approximately 4 out of 200 hand loaded rounds that have had light strikes. I use Winchester Large pistol (WLP) primers. Repeated strikes will not ignite however if I remove the round...

    Norinco Shorty

Yeah, looks pretty cool. I've been considering picking up one of those little Norcs myself. I've heard that they work really well.

    Educate me on lever actions

I own a Winchester 94 30-30. The one thing that always just amazes me is how accurate I can shoot that rifle at 100 yds, standing, using iron sights. This is using the cheapest ammo. I've shot a dozen other rifles and none of them seem to even come close to my Winchester for accuracy. I don't...

    Saw a P99 40 SW today

I've shot over 1000 rounds through my P99 in .40 S&W and I have had absolutely zero failures. This is using both hand loads and factory loads. I wish I could say that for the rest of my guns. I also agree, the ergonomics are fantastic.

What caliber for rabid black bear?

"I posted this before in another "bear thread" I camp in the bear woods often and alone, no matter how heavy is my pack, I always find room to take my "Bear kit"." That's a good idea, I never thought of that. Early warning sure beats waking up with the bear standing on top of you.

    Polymer wars: Choose your weapon!

It's not on the list but Walther P99. Fits my hand like a glove and has never had one hiccup firing.

Stretching a leather holster - any tips?

What worked for me was I stuck my gun (P99) in an unsealed zip lock bag and pulled an old sock over top of the gun completely covering it. I left about 6 inches of the sock at the front of the muzzle and than inserted the gun into the holster. I pushed the 6 inches of excess sock at the muzzle...

    Taurus 24/7 Question

I own a 24/7 in .45. I bought it a year ago expecting to have a few FTF's because it seems this was pretty common in the .45 with the earlier models (before an apparent update to the magazines). After shooting approximately 500 rounds so far I have not had one FTF, or any issue. So far so good.

Shotgun for Home Defense. Pump vs. Auto - your opinion.

My guess is if you had 2 or 3 armed guys bursting into your house and you started shooting, you would end up getting shot regardless of what type of gun. Probably only in the movies can someone pick off a few armed guys without getting shot himself. I would go with a pump action for the...

    We cry about ammo prices...

The US dollar has lost quite a bit of it's value over the last couple of years compared to most other currencies. So, any imports of commodities into the US will be more expensive.

    Ammo Prices and War

Commodity prices are way up over the last year or so while the US dollar is way down versus most currencies over the last year or so. This makes for an expensive combination for the US consumer.

    Stupid trip to Alaska question...

"I was enroute to AK on a commerical flight with 2 pistols in my checked baggage. We suffered an in flight emergency and ended up landing in Canada. We got off the airliner, but our checked baggage didn't. The question of what was in our checked luggage didn't come up. We spent about 9 hours on...
