    7MM Mag replacement for 30-06

I found a NIB Marlin MR-7 Walnut stock, 30-06. I put a 2-7 leupold on it. The action was smooth and the trigger was light and crisp. I spent a hell of lot more than I had originally planed, but this should be the only rifle I'll ever need. Thanks guys

    7MM Mag replacement for 30-06

I anticipate using my rifle primarily for deer, however, I do not want to buy a second rifle should I decide to try for a brown bear. Coal Dragger, I've looked at the .338 &.375, but I think there a bit much for a rifle that will be used for deer first and possibly bear. I also have to...

    7MM Mag replacement for 30-06

I went to the gun store today to pick out my deer rifle. I knew exactly what I wanted: a savage or CZ 30-06 with a walnut or laminate stock. They did not have this rifle. They did have a Savage 7MM mag w/ laminate stock. I wanted to get some opinions on this caliber, especially how it...

    To lock or not.

The blades found on most slip joint knives have near perfect blade geometry for most tasks; i.e. thin and flat ground. This largely makes up for mediocre steel e.g. Swiss army knives. I don’t care whether a knife has a lock or not, so long as the blade geometry’s right. Most locking folders are...

    Help finding Bolt Action rifle

Your right, the mossberg is not what I'm looking for, besides that stock too unsightly. I think a Savage 110, CZ550 is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks Gentlemen

    Help finding Bolt Action rifle

The CZ550 and the Savage both look like very nice rifles, thanks for pointing them out. Does anyone have experience with the Mossberg 4*4 with wither the walnut or laminate stock? I want to invest in a quality rifle, but I'd like to have some money left over for ammo and range time.

    Strop Compound

Evening, I thought I was ordering some Dovo stropping compound; turns out it was the white non abrasive kind. Anyways, I was wondering if there was a stropping compound which could be found at your average hardware store; or whether you can only find it online. My second question is whether...

Advice on slipjoint knife to buy

Evening Gentlemen, I've lost my spyderco and need a new pocket knife. I've lost my taste for modern looking knives; I want something highly functional that is also aesthetically pleasing. Anyhow, I think I've settled on a Case trapper with the chrome and vanadium blades. I was wondering if...

What makes up a good knife

Thank you gentlemen for your thoughtful responses, You bring up interesting points about blade geometry. Almost all the work I do with a knife is with meat and vegetables, over time I’ve developed a strong preference for thin blades ground at acute angles. In the woods I’ll take an axe if I...

    Ideas on blade length.

Well Sm, You took the thoughts out of my head and put them elegantly and concisely into words. You learn allot more sitting down with an old book and your own thoughts than starring at a monitor looking for the perfect solution. Well put sir.

What makes up a good knife

Evening Gentlemen, It’s been awhile since I last posted; I’d like to hash out what makes a good knife. Blade steel: Stainless or carbon doesn’t really matter; if you use carbon steel you just need to be careful to keep a light coat of oil on the steel in wet environments. Modern stainless...

What to do against a grappler...

That’s an interesting question. If you knew in advance they were a skilled grappler and intended to kill you, you’d probably be justified in using a firearm or knife. If you don’t know in advance, there’s a chance you just shot an unarmed relatively harmless man. I’ve been training in western...

    Rain gear.

I have done extensive long distance backpacking, mostly on the PCT. I'm kinda tired and do not feel up to writing a multi volume post, so here's a couple books that will answer all your question's in great detail. Hunting and Thru-Hiking are VERY different activities with different gear...

Help me find that "one perfect knife"

Hso, Just noticed the Hyperlink in your post. I must say that is the most informative well-constructed web sight on knives I’ve seen; I would go as far to say that the quality rivals many books on cutlery. The individual case study testing of each blade is unique; that link probably deserves a...

    Baseball bats anyone?

If it is practical for you; Find a good dojo which offers weapon classes with the bokken. Aikido comes to mind…. I imagine a skilled individual wielding a bokken would have a significant advantage over someone wildly wielding a bat.
