    .223 question

    25.3gr H335 works well for me with 55gr V-MAX.

    Best chronograph

Crony seems the way forward! I have since borrowed a friend's Crony and was trying it out this afternoon. I shot 75gr A-MAX in .223 (24.2gr Varget, Lapua brass CCI 400 primers) at speeds of between 2753 fps and 2829fps. The Crony was set up so its front screen was 15 feet from the muzzle of the...

    .30 calibre

Waht is THE .30 calibre to go for? It is for hunting (deer / boar) not target shooting. The main standards I have contemplated are .30-06 and .308. I am more inclined towards the .30-06 as a shooter (and reloader) of .25-06. What other good suggestions would you give in the general .30 / 7mm ranges?

    .25-06 loads

It looks like I have just been allowed a .25-06 to be added to my licence (UK laws are so much more restrictive than yours!). Who can suggest some good loads (either deer or fox/varmint)? Which brass is best in this calibre? Best powder? I suspect I will stick with Hornady or Nosler...

    Another 223 Loadout question

As you say. single feeding is best unless you have a plastic magazine that can be modified with a Dremmel etc. (Tikka rifles etc.). Standard magazines will give no accuracy for the reloader.

    Another 223 Loadout question

I have used Varget with both 55gr V-MAX and 75gr A-MAX. My brass is Lapua (either once fired factory loaded brass or separately purchased Lapua Match Brass). 27.5gr Varget was the best load I achieved with the 55gr. With the previously factory loaded brass there was compression (the powder was...

AR15 .223 Ball or Stick Powder

I have found it depends on what bullet weight you are shooting with Varget. It does not work well with the 55gr V-MAX in my rifle, but works extremely well under a 75gr A-MAX. H335 is a favourite for the lighter bullets.

    .223 1 in 8" Help!!

Farmer, sorry - been offline a while! The base plate of the magazine's only modification is that the 4 studs that come off the main housing and lock into the baseplate (to hold the plate onto the housing) need to be "tickled" with a drill to take their tips off so that the plate can be removed...

    Hand washing brass questions

A friend (gun dealer) is in the process of cleaning several thousand heavily tarnished, loaded rounds that he is about to try and sell. He says the amount is too great to tumble and is using Coca-Cola to clean the rounds up! I have seen them and they have come clean amazingly well and quickly...

    .223 1 in 8" Help!!

I too have a 1-8" twist T3. 55gr V-MAX shot pretty well through it over 25.3gr H335 (as good as 0.38" groups). The heavier 75gr A-MAX also shoot well under 24.2gr Varget. Here I have been getting groups of between 0.373" and 0.737". I shoot from a bipod with sandbags under the stock on a Land...

    .223 reloads - chrono results

I get 27.5gr Varget in my brass. I use Lapua for everything. The Lapua Match Brass holds more than the factory loaded brass. The factory brass can sometimes hold 27.5gr, but it will be brimming-to-overflowing. The Match brass allows me to load 55gr V-MAX with only minimal compression, depending...

    Data for Hornady 75gr A-Max in .223

ocabj, just seen your post whilst trawling through the forum. I have the 7th edition Hornady manual. The data for 75gr A-MAX in .223 is: Rifle: Colt AR-15, Citadel Bbl Barrel: 20", 1-9" twist Case: Winchester Primer: Winchester WSR COL: 2.390" (75gr A-MAX #22792) - SINGLE SHOT ONLY...

    A-MAX recipe

I am a 1-8". I will try your suggestions MC. Admittedly my rounds are for hunting use (fox), but ever the perfectionist, I want perfect groups, with no room for error. RL-15 is a powder I think I am going to have to try for my heavier bullets. I am reading more and more positive comments...

    A-MAX recipe

I full-length resize and seat using RCBS dies. The seating lightly (IMO) grips the bullet and is not a firm crimp as per a cannelure crimp. I have used a RCBS Precision Mic to eliminate excess headspace for my full-length sizing die and also to ensure that the seating is within 2 thou of the...

    A-MAX recipe

I have just started to experiment with 75gr A-MAX in .223. So far I have been using Varget in Lapua match brass with CCI 400 primers. My 2 most accurate groups have been 0.885" with 24.0gr and 0.888" with 24.2gr - both 5 shot groups, but each with 2 cloverleaf sub-groups. OAL is 2.465". Upon...

    Tikka T3 magazine length

Problem sorted. Being plastic it was nothing that a Dremmel, a block of plastic and some SuperGlue could not sort out. The mag will now take 2.5"+ OAL - more than enough for even the 80gr A-MAX. At the same time the normal 55gr bullets cycle correctly.
