Elcan Digital Hunter

I have. I don't think the focus and resolution is up to what it should be for the asking price of the product. All due to the micro LCD that you're actually looking at when you view through the scope. You're not looking "through" the scope at the target. Granted, it does have some nifty features that the Adirondack doesn't, but the Adirondack is a riflescope first and foremost, and a digital camera secondly. It seems that the Elcan is a digital camera first and foremost, and it's riflescope qualities are lacking due to that fact.

I compared your Elcan model to the Adirondack model here.

It is the world’s first integrated digital camera riflescope. SmartScope™ was introduced to the industry at the 2003 annual Shot Show, the largest outdoor industry trade show in the world. It was then introduced to the market during the fall of 2004 at a retail price of $1,695. The initial market introduction was targeted towards the high-end, non-price sensitive segment of the market.

Generation II SmartScope™ will be introduced in 2006 and will have a recommended retail price of $995. This will allow the product to stay in the high-end market while increasing volume. In 2007, the retail price of Generation II will be dropped to $599 and Generation III will be introduced at $995. By the end of 2007, SmartScope™ will have products and pricing that will appeal to most segments of the sportsman scope market.

Adirondack Optics is now in a position to significantly increase volume in the sportsman market through a combination of brand and price positioning.

Sounds like they're on top of their business. The Elcan battery life is advertised as 4 hours, which isn't even long enough for a good day's hunting, and I only realized about 2 hours 45 mins out of a set of four Duracell alkalines. The Adirondack uses half the batteries and I had approximately 6 hours use out of it. I guess the LCD viewfinder on the Elcan uses the juice!

Elcan Digital Scope

I have used one on a AR15 "Space Gun" in .204 for a year now, and it has been one of my better purchases. I use it for PDing and have a recorded shot on the elcansportingoptics.com site. I had one of a 635 yd PD shot, but they changed it to a 250 yd "Flipper". True, the resolution isn't as sharp as a high dollar Leupold, but you have 4 reticles to choose from, and you can zero each for a different range. It takes a 10 sec video of the shot. Mine is programmed to take 2 sec before and 8 sec after the shot. My goal is to hit 4 PD's in the 8 sec. I have 3 recorded, but 4 is harder than I thought. Since I shoot off a bench, I plug in a 12 volt Gell Cell battery to the Aux power port and can shoot for a week
, no problem. The scope can be programmed to "Go to sleep" if not moved for a few seconds ( like on a stand) and comes back to life when moved, this saves batteries. Also the alkline batteries don't last as long as the Lithiumn. I love mine because I can re-live my shooting at home fraqm by frame, can "E" mail it to PETA, and the Boulder City Councel. Like any new technology, it has a learning curve. I love mine and will buy one of the new "Low Light" models soon. O C ( ps If you send your "E": mail addy, I'll send a few videos to you )Mine is [email protected]
