From what I've read on the forums, all RSC gun safes can be sliced with a Harbor Freight 110 volt metal wheel cut-off tool in a few minutes. Therefore putting more money into a RSC isn't buying more security.
I want a more secure safe. For me that means a safe that has some protection from...
When choosing a lock/bolt, what is important to know, and why?
I'm leaning towards a manually operated deadbolt because I'm assuming the mechanics are simpler and less potential for problems. Not sure if there's much difference of the three mentioned, and perhaps just a choice of dealer support?
Can someone please explain the advantages or differences upgrading to a better lock? I don't understand the internal differences (swing bolt, pivot bolt, rotary bolt, solenoid, direct drive, etc). I'm still trying to find a good local dealer that knows what they are doing so they can help...
a1abdj, thanks for the info. I contacted Stephan of Globaloks for someone in my area that sells/services.
CB900F, I'm willing to expand my options for a better lock.
I don't know much about locks, so never really thought about having a non-factory installed locked. But now you have me thinking...
What makes Globaloks different?
Is this a safe technician install, or DIY (I'm not sure how easy it will be to find someone in Seattle Area).
Globalok's has...
Considering an AMSEC gun safe. The factory installed electronic lock options are Sargent 6120, Sargent 6120EZ, LaGard Basic, or AMSEC ESL, no biometric. I assume Kaba-Mas dual mode is not an option for BF series (or requires special installation that will cost $$$).
How do I decide which to...
Thanks for the update. I'd be interested to know what is involved in installation, and how they transport the safe within the house.
I'd like to install in my utility room, but that means they have to transport over my hardware floors until they reach the room. And I don't want a scratch...
What is the testing difference between Superior's ASME certified fire protection and AMSEC's Mercury?
Superior's Master series has ASME certified fire protection 1500°F 90 minute fire rating".
While AMSEC BF is "Mercury Class III fire protection of 1275°F for 90 minutes. Designed to...
This is how Sturdy tests their safes:

I have minimal familiarity with a foundry, and know some use refractory cement or ceramic wool. I don't remember the outside temperature of the kiln getting too hot to touch. If single walled, the...
I'd just like some more imagination.
Imagine with me something that looked like this...
But steel plated and a UL safe lock.
Perhaps I'm the only one that sees the beauty in something like this.
Thanks heeler. Perhaps I'll just make a wood box/crate.
The cesafes video has me doing some more thinking. Perhaps getting the big safe and keeping it in the garage for mass storage. And then get something like the Amsec Defense Vault. Like to get the Defense Vault with a simpler keypad...
The original context was directed towards me and my needs, so I replied back why my guns need to be locked.
Educating my kids will only go so far (terrible 2's and teenagers). Some are too young to understand what a gun even is. I also need to be concerned about their friends they bring...
My insurance covers the loss.
Some safes are a bit awkward and heavy to simply carry off.
Keeping the safe upright has more to do with limiting prying leverage (IMO).
It needs to be locked up in some way.
I agree, which is why I'm okay with some compromises. I don't expect a sheet metal box to keep out some the smart ones.
I mostly need a gun safe to keep kids out. There's lots of options for this, but I'd prefer a RSC safe. I would have thought...
Why aren't there horizontal gun safes?
I'm trying to select a gun safe, and here's the problems I'm running into:
1) Don't want my gun safe in the garage, where it makes it unlikely to get to my guns in a defense situation.
2) I don't have a basement.
3) Vertical safes are too...
Between Pietta' 1858 target and non-target models, which should I get? I don't understand why someone wouldn't want rear sights, and the front sights look better built.
