45 ACP and Unique and the Lyman Manual

Gotta be honest with you I'm thinking you might want to be careful with the loads listed in the lyman manual with Unique. I'm getting MUCH more speed out of the loads than Lyman says I would and the snappiness backs it up. Just thought I'd let people know. Be careful.

    240swc 10 gr unique. 44mag. Speed chrony

I had a thread awhile back we were talking about that load and someone said in his state 700ftlbs we’re required. Well I ran piles of them through the chronograph this weekend in a 6 inch Anaconda and averaged 1162 with an sd of 14. That is over 700ftlbs

    Shocked by Chilean Mauser

Y'all I had to share this. I didn't have many loaded up so I stuck to 3 shot groups at 100 yards with this very Bubba'd Chilean I've have for decades but just haven't shot. Put this cheap scout scope on it and zero'ed it. I tried 3 loads. PPU factory 139's which were all over the place...

Deer hunting with an air rifle

I watched a YouTube video of a guy repeatedly taking deer successfully with a 357 caliber air rifle with the ballistics of a 38 special. I honestly would tell anyone a 38 is not enough to be deer hunting with but that guy would make a liar out of me

Very pleasant surprise from Chilean Mauser

I finally put a scout scope on a Mauser I've had for decades and never shot. 29 inch barrel. Put 150 grain ELDX in front of 43 grains of 760....2560 fps Got a one inch 3 shot group at 100 yards after setting scope. Never expected that. Tickled. First load tried. Likely to be the last.

    Commercial Semi-wadcutters on game

As much is as cast bullets on game is talked about, I haven't really seen too many discussions from people who have used mass produced cast bullets. I ask specifically because I have an abundance of .431 240 grain SWC Oregon Trail lasercast and a 629 that likes them with 10 grains of Unique. I...

    1894 Accuracy

I couldn't find a thread I started about 1894 loads so I'm starting another. Just a couple of pics of what my new 1894 did at 100 yards with 296/H110 and a 240 grain XTP. With the 5 shot group, I shot the first target and couldn't see the hole in the bull through the 4x scope. Thinking I...

What load got your your best groups in an 1894 Marlin 44?

Very curious what others have noticed. So far for me with three shots, on a very calm day on the bench with a scope, I managed 1 and 3 quarter inches at 100 yards. The load was 23.1 grains of 296 and Hornady 240 XTP. The gun seems to heat up pretty fast and when I do 5 shot groups I generally...

44 Magnum and 30 year old Bluedot

Thought this might be worth sharing. I have about 3 and half pounds of 30 year old Bluedot I used to use for shotguns. I don't do shotguns any more and it's just sat on a shelf all this time. I decided to load the minimum load in the Lyman manual for 245 grains behind the Oregon Trail 240...

44 Magnum Hornady 240 Grain XTP at rifle velocities

So Hornady now has recommended velocity 700 to 1500 fps written on the box of the 240 XTP. My Marlin with a typical load of H110 clocks at 1680 fps. The rifle really does like this load, as do my revolvers. Any hunting duty with this gun will be Southeastern Whitetails. Do I need to be...

    Tumbling finished loads

I read someone on some board say they tumbled finished rounds. I've never done that before. Are there any reasons not to?
