Feedback for a "Letter to the Editor" I'm writing

Bellevaunce, I spent 15 years editing English papers. You are right on the money, keep it simple and straight. The easier it is to follow the logic, the better. The original was good, but I thought the grammar a bit over-complex. Not wrong, just too complex for a letter to the editor.

How I Spent My Stimulus Check

Mine went to stimulate the local government. My first real estate tax installment was due the week the check came. About half that was for .gov pensions. I guess there were a few bucks left over for food.

Don't teach the baby about guns.

My daughter, aged about two I guess, made a lego 'gun' to shoot the big bad wolf with.... Later she decided that the wolf had got a bad rap, and felt sorry for it. In MY version of the story, the wolf ended up as dinner in the pot and a nice lap rug for Grandma.

    article on Makarov's in japan

Huh. Price must be a mistake, at least the Russian price. I can't imagine that when the US price is so much lower. You would think black market guns in Japan would be cheaper too, as easy as guns are to make with pretty basic machine tools. A few years back the Aum Shinrikio was making...

Do you have to live in the USA to be an NRA member?

Nope. I was a memeber for 15 years in Japan. You may have to pay a bit more to get the magazine mailed, I don't recall but I think so.

My Wife this Morning on WLS Chicago for Concealed Carry

I caught part of the show, at about 6:00 AM as I was driving home from work. It was great and I wanted to hear the whole thing. Too bad it wasn't prime time.

Why did the Highlanders carry all-metal BP pistols?

And, they make great clubs after your one and only shot. A lot of hand to hand in those days and no time to reload.

A Billion Bullets -- Where the US Buys Them From

Hurrah! Can anyone say 'excess capacity' and 'price competition' ? Once things have calmed down a bit in Iraq, we should have piles and piles of cheap ammo pouring into the country.

BBC Anti-American Bias in Finland School Shooting Report

Every bad thing that happens in the US is broadcast worldwide. I saw it happen again and again when I lived overseas. Those who pay close attention to the news can find many examples of school shootings and other heinous crimes, but if they happen in any country but the US they get little...

A gun store next to a university campus?

Sigh, the memories.... I spent a fair amount of time in that store back about 1989. Lots of nice stuff. I actually bought my first gun another block or two farther down the street. at the other gun store. Florida, some things you just gotta love about it.

Anyone Into Longbows, Recurves Or Crossbows On Here? Maybe Someone Can Help Me Out.

Check out www.primitivearcher.com You can read a lot of the articles on line, and they have forums you can ask questions on. I like wood longbows myself, pretty easy to make and lots of fun to shoot. Simple fiberglass bows can be had very cheap used. Might be a place to get started and...

Strange Happenings In The Woods/Scary Hunting Stories

Funniest thing I ever saw was a pheasant that flew up from under my feet. Scared me so I couldn't react, but that stupid pheasant flew about 2 feet and slammed into a fence wire. He bounced back down and lay there flopping for a few seconds, right at my feet again. Then he got up and took off...

Strange Happenings In The Woods/Scary Hunting Stories

Boomer, you were what? 16? 18? We all did some pretty dumb things back then. Alcohol involved by any chance?

    Chris Muir Stands up.

Been following Muir for a few years now. Funniest strip out there. That was a brave thing to do. And I love his gun-toting babes calender.

    Illinois "6 seconds from safety"

Is the 'wingspan rule' something that is on the books somewhere in Illinois? I keep a handy pamphlet that describes the Illinois law in the case with my gun. It says nothing about this. Just that the gun must be unloaded and fully covered in a case, snapped or zipped closed.

    Ninja picture

VforVendetta, you have some really great reading experiences coming up. 1984, Brave New World, Atlas Shrugged. All a bit dreary and dark, but real mind-benders. Try Animal Farm, by George Orwell first, it is short and really hits the point.

    anyone read the "Probability Broach"?

It's a good read. Read it for that reason. I don't find the comics that great, prefer the regular version.

The strongest pro-gun argument, and the hardest question for antis

Funny thing I have noticed several times. Look at a picture in the newspaper of 'guns' confiscated, or turned in during one of those buy-backs. Count the number of BB guns, pellet guns, paintball guns that are obvious even in the blurry pics. Outnumber real guns by a good margin, with the...

    Empty space in .38 case?

I have used BP, actually pyrodex, in .38 Sp. We loaded basically till the case was full leaving a little space to seat the bullet so as not to compact the charge too much. Not scientific in any way. By the way, the result was very wimpy. I recovered one shot that had managed to penetrate a...

Real estate-related gun show display. Need opinions.

You know, I understand how Davinci can have a bad opinion of Realtors. I know some pretty hard hearted characters in this business. And with emotions running so high, with so much value at stake, one bad apple can leave a lifetime of bad taste. I feel fortunate in working for a pretty good...
