recommend a gun safe for night stand

I use a Honeywell lockbox from Walmart. It is only $24 and is in the safes section at your local Walleyworld. It has a touchpad with a key backup. I keep a pair of XD's in mine with no problem. It is too good of a deal to pass up.

    Pink Range Bag

how about this one. It is not a dedicated range bag, but I just use a duffel bag for my range bag. http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?sitesrc=USLP&country=US&lang_locale=en_US#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-173801/pgid-173798

Need a CCW for a single mother on a budget

It sounds to me like you are steering her in the right direction. I would, however strongly suggest she get a lockbox for her pistol. You can get them for $20-$25 at Walmart, so there is no reason not to. Get one not only for the child's safety, but also in case her ex breaks into her house (it...

    Gun Movie screw ups....

In one scene from Die Hard 2, Bruce Willis makes several blunders: 1- It is a Glock 7. 2- It is made of porcelin. 3- It costs more than you make in a month. I sure would not want a porcelin Glock 7, but if I did, hopefully it would not cost a couple thousand dollars!

    Garand vs. AR

On the pro's for the AR, you forgot adaptability. It is like a Lego set that shoots bullets. You can customize it to you for everything from stock size, barrell length, caliber, grips, forearms, accessories, optics, etc... You can make an AR into anything that you want.

I Was about to get the LMT AR when...

It just shows how we each have our own tastes. An LMT AR has no soul? When I look at (or fondle) a fine AR, I hear choir music-now that's soul.

    gun storage

You should also offer shorter term storage. When I go on vacation is when I would want mine secured. It would be kind of like the short term dog kennels.

Can anyone recommend a good gunshop in Illinois?

Go see Dave at Pekin Gun. It is by far the best in the area and no, they are not his daughters. He has such a large turnover that his prices are excellent and he has thousands of guns to choose from. I have always bought my guns for well under suggested retail. They also will order just about...

IWB or OWB….Which do you prefer?

I prefer OWB for speed and comfort. When concealment is the main factor, IWB is definately better. I use both depending on the circumstances and clothing.

Some rescue knives would also make good defensive knives as well. Check out the Columbia River MAK-1 and Extrik-8.

    Carry Ammo, Quality vs. Price

A buddy of mine carries the UMC .45 HP's from Walmart as his carry load. I keep the UMC's in my vehicle as back up ammo for 9mm and 45. I have shot quite a bit of it in several calibers and have never had a failure. Before my buddy started carrying it, we tested it on water jugs. It outperformed...

CCW: Full Sized Vs Sub Compact

I also split the difference and went with an XD 45 compact. In winter, I carry it as a full size with the 13 round magazines. When it gets super hot (for about 3 weeks in the summer), I switch to an XD 9 subcompact. I guess you could say that I carry a subcompact, compact, and full size...

I don't quite understand using a rifle for home defense

Another reason that I feel is very important is familiarity. Many of us were in the military and have more training/experience with a rifle than a handgun or shotgun. When stress kicks in, you will react faster with what you are most familiar with.
