Rifle Sights vs. Ghost Ring Sights

water....yes, but then you have to re-sight in the gun everytime you change out the barrel. I like rifle sights, but that's because I'm used to them. I've never used ghost rings. Beads are nice too, but they're not as good for distance shooting. They are a bit faster up close, but within...

    Hollow Points Vs. Solids

Might be a problem if you're in a state that doesn't do the Grand Jury thing, though. It probably depends more on your location than anything else. If you're in a self defense friendly area, then anything goes so long as it's a good shoot. If you're in an area where it's not quite as...

Just curious how you all do it...

Effectiveness = how well the tool gets the job done (assuming the user does his/her part). A pistol grip hinders that, because its not as fast to get on target, its not as accurate, and its not as fast with a followup shot. Sure, the shot load is the same, but it isn't worth jack nor squat if...

    Hollow Points Vs. Solids

Only if you're in New Jersey. Generally, you shouldn't have a problem no matter what you choose, but its wise to stay with commercial offerings that are close to standard LEO issue for self defense purposes. Handloads aren't illegal per se, but a particularly grumpy prosecutor may try and...

Technical term for jagged "door breaker" thingy...

Pffft. You're not thinking tactically enough, man. What you need is a frickin' chainsaw. Now that'd be high-speed low-drag. I mean, it worked in Gears of War, right? :neener:

Just curious how you all do it...

A shotgun without a shoulder stock is like a bicycle without a seat. It will still work, it's just not nearly as comfortable or effective.

    help crow hunting

Ravens and crows are NOT the same thing. Shoot a raven instead of a crow, and its a good way to get fined if you're caught (they're a protected species). Crows are smaller, have a narrow beak and a narrow tail. Ravens are much larger, have a humped/curved beak and a spread-out, wedge-shaped...

Whats the most that you will pay for a knife?

Three reasons. The first being that knives, which are usually fairly compact objects, are fairly easy to lose. I've lost several in my life time, and the fear of losing something that cost me several hundred dollars would keep me from using them much. The second is that, it is very possible...

My 3 bases, Let's see yours!

Whats the most that you will pay for a knife?

$100 +/- $20 is my practical limit. I couldn't pay more for a knife and still be able to use it without worrying too much about it. So far, the most expensive knife I own cost me around $50.

recoil pad / butt cuff for 1920's Winchester 1894 with crescent stock

Onmilo: The lace-up recoil pad doesn't require any modification to the original stock. It slips on, then the laces are used to secure it. Its also a lot cheaper than buying a new stock.

recoil pad / butt cuff for 1920's Winchester 1894 with crescent stock

Check Cabelas for a leather lace-up recoil pads. It looks close enough to period, so it doesn't mess too much with the looks of the gun, and it works on the crescent stocks. Edit: here's the link...

    A Couple "What ifs... ?"

I've heard of a lot of handloaders using spitzer bullets in .30-30 and simply loading one in the tube and one in the mag. No reason to reduce the magazine capacity for that. Frankly, it'd be better to give the gun a box magazine similar to a bolt action. That would give it a better than 2...

    Bullet Choice and Performance

I've always used Core-Lokt. They perform well enough on deer, and they're cheap enough to practice with. Last deer I shot with one died right there. Didn't recover the bullet - it went in one side and out the other. Shot was with a Ruger M77 chambered in .280 Rem. at about 75-100 yards. I...

    I've been offered 2 shotguns...

Normally I'd say get the 870, but in this case... Get the 500, and use the $100 to either buy a new barrel or buy lots of ammo.

Help me decide between a shotgun or a pistol.

Heh. You're serious? Ok, lets say you surprise me and grab the barrel of my shotgun, and attempt to wrest it away from me. At this point, you run into your first problem: I have a solid grip on the both the forearm and the butt of the gun, making it very difficult for you to keep hold of the...

A gun can kill as easily as a knife

This story is over two years old. I believe there were several threads about it when it originally happened, as well.

Does Bighorn Sheep taste like Lamb?

Probably more like mutton. I've never had Bighorn, but your probably going to be shooting an older one, so my guess is it'll taste more like a mature sheep rather than lamb.

Why can't I find a gun case that doesn't scream GUN!

It seems to me that anything that doesn't scream gun but can hold a rifle still screams "steal me!" Guitars and other instruments are just as easy to fence as a gun and sometimes bring similar prices, so I don't see using an instrument case to try and deter theft as working out too well.
