Best powder for 9mm with 147 gr. cast bullets?

You might want to try a few with a heavier charge of HS-6, sometimes those slightly loose lead bullets need a little extra help "bumping up" to bore size - usually works better with faster burning rate powders though. Any hot powder gasses that get past the bullet base really aggravate leading...

S&W police trade ins at J&G. Good Buy?

I purchased two round-butt DAO Model 64's from J&G a few months ago. You really save on shipping when you order more than one. :) The 64-2 had slightly worse finish wear, but could be put in SA mode - not that I'd want to make a habit of it, as there's not much to hang on to on that bobbed...

Most accurate handgun you've ever fired?

My Colt Woodsman .22LR, which I inherited from my Dad, provided I use the right ammo. Never have experienced another pistol with that fine a trigger, and the sights (although slow to acquire) allow an extremely fine sight picture.

How did your Unintentional Discharge happen?

Had two negligent discharges in my early life. The first, at age eleven, occurred when I snuck Mom's .25acp out of the bedroom and took it out to the playhouse. I proceeded to eject the round out of the chamber, then remove the magazine, and thinking the gun was empty pointed it at the floor...

    Crimson Trace Grips

Another satisfied customer of CT - I have several sets of their grips. The first pair purchased for my backup 642 (that's carried every day) had the pad over the backstrap start separating from one side panel. I e-mailed and asked about the preferred adhesive for gluing it back down, as I...

    Who case hardens small parts?

You could look over this old thread on case-hardening: Case-hardened? The surface-hardening compound Kasenit is available from both MidwayUSA and Brownell's. It can be readily used at a home workshop.

    Tight Chambers in .22LR Revolver

I've got a Bangor Punta vintage (early 1980's) S&W Model 63 that I bought new. It looks good, is well timed, but has been used very little because of an annoying characteristic. The chambers are so tight that loading just about any .22LR ammo is a chore - the rounds have to be pressed into the...

    Where are the primers

Not to give the wrong impression, I too have an ample stash of reloading components - some dating back to before the Clinton years. A couple of the boxes of Winchester 1k small pistol primers that I just used were marked $7.25, if that gives you an idea of how long ago they were purchased...

.380 Case Mixed in While Reloading 9mm

In this case, the press was set to 9mm lengths, so the taper crimp die would never reach the case mouth on a .380 cartridge. That doesn't mean the bullet wouldn't seat - as the OAL was also at 9mm lengths. Don't think the powder would have been much compressed, due to the same factor. By...

    Life's ultimate question

I can't count that high! Lots of 22's - check! Lots of .38's - check! Lots of .45's - check! It would take too long to figure out how to vote, and there might be a tie - need more options!

    Where are the primers

Notice that Powder Valley used to list a 5K price for each primer type, but that's also gone now? Guess we're stuck with either no primers at all, or buying them 1K at a time...:barf:

.380 Case Mixed in While Reloading 9mm

O.K., earlier today I was plugging away on my Hornady LnL-AP on a bunch of 9mm reloads. I routinely eyeball the powder level just before starting a bullet in at the seating station, and noticed a cartridge that looked suspiciously full of powder. So I pulled it and dumped the powder charge on...

PARA LDA - discharged when loading - opinions wanted

So are you going to decap/resize/reload that cartridge case? ;) Just kidding, glad you came through unscathed (except for the ringing in the ears). A most unusual incident - hope you never have another!

    What safety do I need?

If the Taurus safety is anything like the ambi on my Colt, the RH lever itself will have to be modified to clear the laser diode on the CT grips. I ended up with a long lever on the LH side of the frame, a short one on the right - it looks a little funny to some people, but works fine for me. :)

    Unique not dispensing uniformly

I'm using a Hornady LNL powder measure with pistol rotor/insert on a LNL-AP press. When I first got it, my experiences pretty much mirrored qajaq59's - the thing just about drove me crazy! Charges varied +/- .4 grain, which was totally unacceptable. Went to Hornady's website looking for...

Are you tumbling live ammo ??

I routinely vibra-tumble my reloaded ammo, both lead bullet pistol ammo and jacketed rifle ammo. It cleans the sizing lube off the bottle-neck cases, and the excess bullet lube off the cast pistol loads. Use a dryer sheet in the media, and even lead bullets don't seem to dirty the media...

    Loading the .380

In my experience, that isn't quite 100% true: I use my 9mm dies to expand, seat, and crimp my .380 reloads. You DO have to use a .380 sizer die along with a .380 shell holder to get the job done. You can't use just a 9mm die set, as the sizer and shell holder need to be specific to the .380...

    CRKT

I've had several CRKT knives, all in the M16 series. They're a good quality knife at a low-enough price point that you don't feel too bad when you lose/abuse one. Currently have two that are EDC, a 3" spear point and a 3-7/8" tanto point. They just work well, but don't break the bank.
