How I find what the local pd uses?

The best way to find out is to ask. You can find yourself in a lot of interesting conversations that way, if you go about asking properly. I asked once and found out that my local Sheriff's Department requires that each Deputy supply their own firearms. The one I learned this from was carrying a...

Whats a good pistol for under $400

My first firearm was a used Ruger P95DC. I'd recommend it to anyone, for anything except maybe competitive shooting. It'll eat pretty much any 9mm ammo you stick in it without a hiccup and it's about as accurate as you'll get without doubling your price range.

Suggestions for a nice HD shotgun?

I have to agree with general consensus that you can't go wrong with an 870 or a Mossberg 500. Unless you've got a strong reason to suspect that multiple trained someones are coming for you, I'd say go for the pump over the semi-auto. It's a hotly debated topic about whether or not the sound...

Parents: how/when to introduce children to guns

I somewhat agree with Glock River, though not quite so harshly. It's really up to the parent to evaluate both the amount of time they have to work on the basics and to determine if their child could be responsible enough. My son (2 1/2) helps me clean my firearms, and we practice what the...

    Should I do this?

Look up Rules of Fair Chase and see if it's about the same thing. While I have no doubt that a well placed .38 Special round from an appropriate weapon is suffient for deer, I'm not sure that there's a load in existence that would have enough energy in a snubbie to be ethical for deer.

Whats the Next Gun you plan to Buy?

Next handgun, I believe, will be a stainless Taurus 1911. I've got the blued version and it seems a little bit lonely.

    dumb question

Slightly more obscure addition to this question. Does anyone know if it's safe to fire a .38 S&W cartridge from a .357 chamber?

    Just a thought

Most concealed carry laws are worded oddly. I think that it's partly to make those who carry do research so they understand the laws more deeply and partly to collect more revenue from the ones who don't feel the need. Here in Ohio we've been fighting sketchy wording in the concealed carry...

    Just a thought

The wording is kind of sketchy, but I'm fairly certain that a prosecutor just out of law school would be able to convince most juries that "obtained legally and taken in therapeutically appropriate amounts" would apply to prescription drugs rather than alcohol.

    what's the best raging bull?

The .223 is rumor at the moment, but it's a high hope for me. Probably should have specified that before. Regardless, my experience with Taurus is that they manufacture a firearm that does its job at a price point a lot of people can't pass.

    what's the best raging bull?

Taurus is plenty accurate and reliable, especially if you're going into a caliber that big. If Taurus firearms were really as bad as people around here make them out to be, I'd have 2 fewer scars on my leg (tripped and tumbled with one in my hand). I've looked at the Raging Bull line a few...

    Feg ap7,65

Anybody know where I can find instructions on how to take down one of these for inspection and cleaning? I came across one for a pretty near unbeatable price, but I can't find any manuals or other directions for it.

    Taurus 1911

I've put a fair amount of both through mine and haven't had a problem with feeding. It's a pretty sound little gun.

Get into shape physically to be a better shooter!

Thank you for this addition. I'm fairly young, but joint issues run in my family and I've unfortunately come into them already. My hips and knees don't facilitate proper exercise most days, so my conditioning has fallen pretty far from what it once was (though I do what I can when I can). I...

Latest on lawsuit: Philly v. NRA members

And if these laws stick and they ACTUALLY manage to enforce them, then next year 80% of murders will be committed with knives. The next logical step from there would be to require a background and licensing for kitchen utensil purchases.

Police say man had 28 weapons

When we legally become adults we're faced with many decisions. One of those decisions is to decide where we'll live our lives. If we settle on a place (whether it's moving to another state or staying in the same one) then we commit ourselves to following the rules (laws) of that place regardless...

Taxes on guns and ammo unconstitutional?

This is a debate that's as pointless as Republican vs. Democrat or conservative vs. liberal. I can't recall where I heard it, but I've been told that the Founding Fathers thought that the government shouldn't have the authority to tax the people and that all programs that they wanted to start...

    Guns of Iron Man

Exactly. Tony Stark is almost as fond of high technology as he is of his drink. Honestly I paid zero attention to the small arms (I went in mostly worried about how they'd handle the suit), though I may be seeing it again today with a different set of friends so I can pay more attention to them.

What guns nowdays can be considered "junk guns" anymore?? Is the Junk Guns era over??

My dad had a Jennings .22lr pistol that ran fine for years. He got rid of it not long ago not because of malfunctions, but because my mother made him an offer he couldn't refuse on another gun because she couldn't shoot the one she had well enough because of the size. He missed it, so we went...

    Stop the bleeding

Gauze, anti-bacterial ointment, and plastic medical tape wrapped tight around it. I had the displeasure of my first and last "learning experience" (ND resulting in self-injury) being a .45 through the thigh. The most important step in the treatment is the same as the most important step for...
