CZ82, beautifully made Czech pistol for the price of a highpoint.

anyone mentioned a Bulgarian Arcus yet? Those are browning hi-power clones made in Bulgaria, and although a lil retro by some people's standard they're great bang for the buck

Very very good...they are better than some other pistols that cost much more...users (included for the other models) are, on average, extremely happy with it (me included)
Excellent Customer Support (if you ever need it...most likely not..)
Furthermore, it is a "field tested" pistol used by the Argentinian Armed Forces, Argentina Federal Police and several other LE agencies all across Latin America.

One of the reasons they do not cost much is because they are manufactured in Argentina and Brazil and the company does not spend one penny in advertisement. Finishing is not top notch..do not expect the "jewel like" appearance of a SIG...it is a very utilitarian, practical pistol, not a safe queen...

Team Bersa does very well in the IPSC competitions.

Hey, you talked me into a nice used 380 Thunder I saw at the shop today! It was 209.00 and came with a nice Galco OWB holster. Looked very lightly used and in nice condition.

Everything you said rang true when I was looking at that pistol. I threw down a 100 bucks on it and I'll try to pick it up in the next few weeks when I get some more time.

Salud!

Another vote here for the sig p6. Still available in the 350-400 dollar range. You will not be able to find a better pistol for that kind of money.

The P6 is a very nice gun, however is a used gun without a warranty. The left front slide rail cracked off of one my ex-girlfriend had and that was the end of that. You can still buy some good guns new for under $400. I have the Ruger P95 in 9mmand the Stoeger Cougar in .40 and I'd recommend either, they don't match my Sigs, but you said $400.

My first firearm was a used Ruger P95DC. I'd recommend it to anyone, for anything except maybe competitive shooting. It'll eat pretty much any 9mm ammo you stick in it without a hiccup and it's about as accurate as you'll get without doubling your price range.

If you want an auto, my vote goes to the Bersa. Right out of the box, the Bersa trigger rivals that of many guns 4-6 times the price. Other than that, the ergonomics are good, unlike the kel-tecs and skyys that will likely hurt your hand to shoot. Really nothing else special about it, just an all around good gun at a fair price and it happens to have a superior trigger.

Got both CZ P-01's used LNIB for under $400.

$175 for the first one, $375 for the second.

So that comes out to $275 each.

CZ 97B was more expensive, but came with 400 rounds of ammo.

So, using pre ammo starvation prices, I figure, I paid $440.

Including holster.

I don't know if that is good or bad, but

They all have proven to be superb weapons.

Last year I picked up my Springfield XD 45 in the 5 inch tactical model (2006 version) for right around $550. Granted I won't use the goofy holster that came with it, but the 2 high cap mags, mag holder, and cleaning brush have gotten a lot of use.

I'd have to go with the Ruger "P" series, get the most durable gun in the WORLD! bar none, and I don't care what anyone thinks, the most reliable semi auto made! they have been tested under water fired while dumping a bucket of sand over them, no jam or lockup, and field tested with a bullet jammed in the barrel and a round fired behind it, locked the slide, but did not destroy the gun!! Let's see the foreign made *^%$ do that? and for the SAME PRICE - KEEP AN AMERICAN WORKING - if MADE IN AMERICA means anything to ya? :banghead:

Whats a good pistol for under $400

3rd. Generation S&W Police Trade In's, available in too many sizes & calibers to list them all! A lot of gun for what they cost!

For that price your best bet will be to look at used pistols. You are better off with a quality used firearm than (in some cases) a questionable new firearm.

For max fun plinking with cheap ammo, I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Ruger Mk II/III .22 pistol. I have a Mk II 22/45 and shoot the thing all the time!

You've gotten some really excellent recommendations here and can hardly go wrong with most. I'll cast my vote for the Ruger P series. Especially the P-95 which can be had new for well south of $400 and which will last a lifetime of shooting with low maintenence.

Metro Arms American Classic 2 or also called the Firestorm Deluxe 1911, an absolutly beautiful and reliable 1911 45acp for $375-$475. It is the pistol that got me hooked on 1911's. Do a little research and you will see there isnt any unhappy owners!!
