    An odd 1911

I was at my local gunstore the other day, deciding which lovely toy I will want to spend my hard-earned money on when I finally have some hard-earned money, when my eye was drawn to a lonely little 1911 sitting in the case of Sigs and glocks. I actually can't remember the brand, other than...

    What's a good first 1911?

Yeah, I know it's been asked about a million times... I just can't find it with the search tool... Full size, preferably not over $700, reliable, and as accurate as possible for that price. Doesn't have to be concealable (that's why I have a wundernine/will have a wunderforty), although that...

    Thinking about selling my Garand

It's a CAI with Italian and Danish parts, and problems with the rear sight. I'm thinking about selling it and using the money to buy an O3A3 or somethin'. Good idea? Bad?

    Where to buy...

Where is the best place to by an 1861 3-band Springfield? I've seen countless online stores, many of which label themselves as sutlers, but I have no idea where to find a good price and good service. It would also be helpful if said place sold the necessaries like flask, bullet pouch or...

A plea to those voting 3rd party

This is especially aimed at those in states that are in the balance, but it applies to all of you. This November 2nd, ask yourself a question. Are you prepared to deal with john kerry as president? Are you prepared to have a socialist in office? Are you prepared to, at a moment's notice...

    I got a new AR-15

Bushmaster 16" A2 carbine with collapsible, plus 3 30-rd mags. Total with tax: $836. Also got a Gapper (yes, I paid $3 for a piece of rubber. Not having blisters is worth it to me) and an A1 FH (I prefer A1). First question: How the devil do I get the A2 off? Second question: Do I need...

    firearms blue-book

Okay, we're all familiar with the Kelley Blue Book. I imagine some of us know about knockoffs, like the Camera and Lens Blue Book, or the Firearms Blue Book, or on the same lines, the Standard Catalog of Firearms. I, however, don't currently have the money to spend thirty-five bucks a year on...

    Walther P99 replacement barrel

Does anybody besides Walther make replacement barrels for the P99? Preferably a threaded one. The only ones I know of are Jarvis ($185-195). Are these good? Any compensators to be had for the supressor-threaded barrels?

Most inherently accurate centerfire handgun cartridge

Which centerfire handgun cartridge, loaded to match specs, is going to be the most accurate? My guess is going to be .38 sp. wadcutter, but I'm probably wrong. Since it's a handgun, does it really matter anyway? Probably not, but whatever.

    Garand scope mount

Looking for a decent scope mount for the M1 Garand. Don't worry, it's a CAI receiver with Danish and Italian parts, nothing historical. One that allows me to use the irons would be nice, but not necessary.

    Navy Arms

For a long time, Navy Arms has been down, at least to me. Can't access it. Started with the MSD, now the entire site. Anybody know what's going on? Is there a new site?

    Aics

Is the AICS worth the $650 or so it costs? As in, is the stock comfortable ergonomically (1.5, so LOP and comb height adjustable), does the magazine system work well, would I be better off buying a McMillan, etc.? Use is not hunting, but precision rifle (though not benchrest) shooting. I know...

    semi-auto .308 precision rifle

I been thinking about a long range (out to at least 500 yards or further) precision .308 rifle for a while now, bolt or semi, and I'm kind of leaning towards semi (for the additional fun factor). I've thought up a couple of configurations, but I'm wondering which is going to be more inherently...

    Winchester folding knife

I have a pocket knife I recently bought from Wal-Mart for about 9 bucks so's I could have a knife on a pier-fishing trip I went on recently. It's the one on top in this picture. So, first it opened okay, then it became really hard to open, and now, it's so loose I can open it with just a...

What's the difference between the Springfield 1861 and 1863?

I guess the title says it all, really.

    Cannons

From what I read of the law, and from what others here have said, a cannon (provided it is blackpowder, not a modern shell-gun) is legal to posess without a permit or transfer tax (it's just explosive shot that's bad, and I think even then only if it isn't blackpowder, but I could be wrong). So...

    Mosin-Nagant refinishing project

So I have this old Mosin-Nagant 91/30, it's a blast to shoot, yadda, yadda, yadda. However, the stock is pretty beat up, and the finish on the metal is all mottly. So what I want to do is refinish it. I have a couple questions, though. 1. Does the 91/30 have bluing or parkerizing? If it's...

    AR-15 scope

Okay, I can't find any pictures, so here goes with a description. It's about six inches long, with a 30mm tube, no bells on either end, just a plain cylinder, comes in black or stainless with a carrying-handle mount, has a bullet-drop compensator (I think, may be different model), and is...

The Official "I Might Have Been a Dumb***" thread

Here is my Might Have Been A Dumb*** story. Feel free to comment and post your own such stories. I went down to the Chantilly gun show today, and looked around for a while, and I found something that really got my eye. It was a Beretta 96. With Night Sights. Good condition, but worn...

    P90

So at the gun show in Northern VA today, I saw a FN P90 (it did say Law Enforcement Only, though, otherwise I would have bought it no matter the cost, if I could have). I didn't get to hold it, but I do have one thing to say. Jesus Christ in a Wheelbarrow that thing is TINY! It made the MP5s...
