Recently acquired a Ruger SFAR 16 inch for woods hunting. I also own a DPMS G2 Hunter 20 inch (discontinued) for longer range hunting. Both handle and feel like an AR-15. Run both suppressed, both are tack drivers, and don’t recoil much. If using for hunting and general use I would recommend...
I shoot the Lee 124 grain round nose through my 9mm pistols and carbines. Cast with range scrap alloy. I powder-coat them with Eastwood powder-coat and size to .358. In guns with tighter chambers I size to .357. No leading, and very accurate.
I think the 45 Colt is better candidate for subsonic suppression than the 45-70 due to the fact it uses way less powder. I have and run a 45-70 suppressed but it’s main purpose is supersonic hunting loads. 350 grain bullet at 2000 fps sounds like an unsuppressed .22. Simply amazing.
I would search for a DPMS G2 Hunter. I have one as my main deer rig, excellent weapon for a lightweight ar-10. They are out of production, but have the edge for handiness in my opinion. I am up to around 10 deer with this setup.
I have a Henry Big Boy Case Hardened in 45 Colt, sweet rifle. I shoot only cast as I cast my own. It cycles and shoots the Lee 230 grain round nose perfectly and the 315 grain Lee WFN perfect. It has issues with the 200 grain SWC. Have not tried any jacketed in it yet.
I just bought an xdm elite and have run 3-4 hundred rounds through it. Accurate pistol, overall I give the trigger a “good” rating. I would still switch it out for a better trigger for paper targets. My target pistols usually have 2-3 lb crisp triggers. This one pulls around 4 lbs but still...
I suggest a Smith and Wesson 460V if your goal is a hand cannon with power that attracts others and makes you look like a man. Fireballs and sonic booms that massage everything around you to impress. Full power loads out of my 460 are easier to shoot than Ruger only loads out of my Ruger...
I just purchased the same rifle from psa and took it out yesterday for the first time. Very nice shooting gun, decently tight groups at 100 yards with open sights and no hiccups. 2-3 moa with steel case surplus. I am happy with it.
Consider casting your own bullets and powdercoating. Dramatically reduces the cost per shot so you can practice a lot with full power loads. I put off casting until I bought my 460. It has been very rewarding and not near as time consuming as I originally thought. I am shooting the lee 300...
