I'm the first to admit that I am far from a RB expert. But I have what I thought was a cadet rifle in 45/50 caliber. The wood on mine could have been replaced.
The best advice that I was given many years ago was to place something that will hold water on the end of the barrel. If that stance works for you use it. Like lifting weights. 3 reps of 15, with more water(weight) added as you progress. Work on all the basics while developing muscle memory...
For me the .40/65 WCF is my favorite. Short range, long range, in between, it's all good. Good thumping on the business end and easy on the shoulder. For the newer rounds it will have to be the .300 Winchester magnum. It gets there a lot quicker with authority. Not so easy on the shoulder!
I picked up a S&W Ladysmith in 22 long. 2nd model,I think. It needs some work done on it. The cylinder doesn't turn in sa and da. The trigger will not return either. Does anyone know a smith that works on these?
The Colt I sent Sal had a timing issue. It was an 1878 in .32/20 caliber. He got it running for me. No parts were replaced. It has been several years ago and I don't remember the cost. It seemed pretty reasonable at the time. I'm thinking around $150 plus shipping.
That seems to be a fair price. I picked up one for that kinda money a couple of years ago and have been pleased with it. Fun to shoot and as accurate as my old eyes are. Check the latch on the barrel for cracks.
