Worst experience at the range: Equipment version

Drove 30 minutes to a local indoor range wanting to have some fun with my new Coonan .357 mag and was so excited that I forgot the ammo at home and the gun store was fresh out of .357 mag ammo..........what a bummer.

    223 powder and bullet suggestions

I agree with NWcityguy2. Both my AR (.223 and .308 Bushmaster, DPMS) prefer IMR 4064.

Anyone familiar with the Coonan .357 1911?

I have both of the new models....Love them both. Not good for you if you have small hands. Like Rodentman said, it likes heavier loads. I load for mine and if you reload 125 grain it has to be at the top limit or it won't cycle well. I haven't changed out springs for it to shoot .38 and...

    Big Box Sporting Goods Stores

For most of the reasons people are saying above (Gander, Cabela's, Bass Pro etc) they are the reason that the mom and pop shops will stay around. They are the only ones getting and selling used guns. Plus, most mom and pop shops can sell below retail because they don't have a 25,0000 sq ft...

Largest handgun You've ever tried to Conceal Carry?

Full size Coonan .357 mag..strong side hip. Covered more than concealed because I usually carry it when I have a sweatshirt on in the winter. I'll carry it in the summer if I'm wearing a long shirt untucked. I'm 6'1 and 260 so it's not "too" heavy as I usually carry a full size 1911 when not...

Do you consider packaging when buying ammo?

I don't buy factory rounds and haven't in about 3 years or more since I started reloading. G.I. can's that are labeled and that's about it. If I find some great deal at a gun show and do buy some I could care less how the look or what packaging they are in as long as they go boom.

    New Coonan Compact...

I have the 5" and the 4" compact and love them both. I've not shot the compact either but I have about 2k rounds to see how well I like it.

High-powered handgun loads for self defense

Quote: Here's my premise: It's been well established that handguns are under-powered as anti personnel weapons. If one were to be forced to knowingly go into harm's way, he would want to carry a long gun because rifles and carbines have much greater power and they literally do drop people in...

Selling off my collection - trying to "cut the cord"

I have thought about thinning the herd. I have two boys that are 10 and 7 and they love to shoot with me and they've already staked claim on the ones they want. (no arguing cause they both chose different types of guns) so I'll only keep them because they want them. I don't get to shoot as...

ever bought a gun without telling wife ?

We have that same arrangement if it comes down to it. Normally, we take turns buying things we want and then when it comes to her buying jewlery then I get to spend half of what it cost. Have never had a problem.

help with choice of 4-12x scopes

+1 on the Vortex Diamonback. I just bought 2 and will be putting them on my other rifles as well. Clear, easy adjustments and if anything ever happens to them, I'll get free replacements.
