    Vortex Viper PST

Having used both brands of scope extensively I expand on this and will push the ante to possibly be construed as condescending. The Viper PST (and HS, in 1-4x flavor) takes a square and solid dump on any Bushnell that has ever been on the market. The quality of the Vortex PST glass is...

What does your ffl transfer cost?

30 bucks here (per gun) in my bit of central FL is the best I can get (local pawn shop). Some dealers seem to be charging 40,50 even 60 bucks....crazy.

Lower Parts Kit: DD or Spikes Enhanced?

I've had a Spikes coated trigger and was less than impressed. The problem was not the coating....it was the underlying trigger, not the best. And that's the trouble with any GI trigger....there is variation in the manufacturing tolerances so you can never guarantee a great GI trigger, coated...

Want to start shooting 'Steel Challenge' - any advice?

Big +1 on that; paper plates will serve you well for the reasons given. The other good thing with them as well is that they don't fall....so you don't have to set up that many, just a small row or pattern of them, then shoot them multiple times on a string moving back and forth between them -...

    Shooting The Texas Star?

Have to say, I do enjoy taking them out with a shotgun :)

Ever wonder what was in .303 British ammo?

    Very interesting, thanks for posting

    Shooting The Texas Star?

This is a very good video and is what I try to do every time; very solid technique which in a perfect world requires very little (if any) movement of the gun and position for the entire star. In my experience though, the trouble starts with these things when you happen to miss a plate....then...

    Where are the sub 2000's?

They can be tricky to get ahold of - it was the same when I bought mine 3 years ago. There's quite a few on Gunbroker; worth keeping an eye on that.

    AR15 Barrel Life?

Are you talking chrome lined or unlined? I personally have a chrome lined S&W M&P15 barrel (1:9, FWIW) that has over 20k rounds through it. Predominantly fed by Brown Bear ammo (3MOA ammo), it still shoots the same as the day I bought it. Could there be some kind of slight opening up of the...

    Bolt Carrier Failure in AR-15's

Exactly right - the premium/non premium PSA carriers are exactly the same, and as you say the only difference is between the bolt testing, one being MPI/HPT tested, the other not. I picked up a non premium BCG when they were on sale and its been great. As an aside, after extensive research...

    vortex sparc on AR

Not really...I have one of each there are significant differences between the two. Both work well but the sparc has a better finer dot IMO, and the 6 hour auto shut off is nice. In addition the sparc comes with the mounts and magnifier, when you add it all up the gap between the PA and the...

    vortex sparc on AR

It comes with a 2x magnifier - it works OK. Personally I'm not into magnifiers and dots - really a *very* poor relation to a proper scope - but the one that comes with it for free will do for you on occasion.

    vortex sparc on AR

I have a Sparc on one of my AR's - great little optic for the $$, 3-4000 trouble free rounds now. Make sure you get it mounted nice and securely and that the battery cap is tight and you'll have no problems - the zero doesn't wander on these.

    stripped lower

I don't believe they are anymore.....I think LW Schneider is currently supplying both the Palmetto safe/fire and pictogram ones now. I think they are even nicer lowers than the older aeros to be honest, a bit nicer finished.

    stripped lower

Great in spec lowers. Why pay more?

    Golden Bear Ammo

No....Golden Tiger is lacquer coated and produced at the "Vympel" plant. Its not too bad either but fairly hard to find. Golden Bear is produced at Barnaul and as the poster above says it has a brass wash, so looks like regular brass ammo (although it is just a brass wash over steel).

    Golden Bear Ammo

All Bear is good ammo. I wouldn't bother paying the extra premium for the "Golden" however, as it all performs the same; bullet choice and powder loadings are the same throughout the Bear family. Just maybe if you have a rifle that really seems to struggle with the lacquer coated Brown it...

    AR-15 troy FF rail issue

Curious, was the DD block touching the rail at all times? I have VLTOR clamp with a TRX extreme - while its tight in there, there is enough room. MrCleanOK.....I don't necessarily agree with your running order there - clamp is often better for the home installer as it negates the need to...
