I picked up this Bubba mauser and i cant seem to figure out what is going on with the Dovetail cut out? Not even sure thats what it would be called...Can someone ID what is/was going on here and why this would have been done. Thanks
I fixed up a rifle pretty much for exactly the same hunting conditions you listed.
Found a beat up savage 110e in 3006 at a local shop. Had the barrel cut to 17inchs. Took the stock down and did a hand rubed BLO finish. I topped it with a vintage 4x bushnell scope chief. Only thing I might do...
Savage 110 in 3006
17inch barrel
Hand rubbed BLO finish.
Soon to be wearing a vintage weaver k4-1 (once my new rings come in)
Going to make a nice brush gun
Just sold a black diamond my father bought brand new in the 70's...sold it in the box with all original paper work and oil bottle...even store hang tag..$500.00
Took a little bit of time to get that but had tons of interest...that should give you some idea of value. They are nice shooting rifles.
I would not want one or buy one of knowing prior to purchase.
If I had one that a loved one used I would probably have it destroyed. No need to have it around with a painfully memory. Would be some small splinter of closure and comfort knowing it was gone from this earth. That's just my opinion.
Did remington ever do a factory finish nickel reciver?
I picked up one that dates 1977 that has a nickel reciver and im wondering if someone did this or was it a factory job. I cant find any info on them if so...I see where some of the newer ones are offered in this...
Anybody like the Remington 550-1?..I ran into one this week and man what a sweet .22
Anybody else still shoot these ole .22's..I plan to take this one on a few Squirrel hunts this year.
