Last night I was at Wal-Mart and was buying ammo (a brick of .22lr and a box of 12 ga 3” turkey loads).
The person behind the counter when I was checking out asked me if it the .22lr was for a pistol or a rifle and pointed to the sign (New York State law requires customers to have a valid permit to carry and possess handguns to Purchase “HANDGUN SPECIFIC” ammunition. Permits are only valid in the state they are issued). I answered rifle then she picked up the shotgun shells and asked the same question. So I asked her “what is handgun specific ammunition?” she had no idea.
Is it just me or is there no such thing as “HANDGUN SPECIFIC” ammunition? I looked at all the ammo behind the counter and could not come up with one that there was not a rifle chambered in (remember Wal-Mart doesn’t carry any exotic stuff).
Thoughts & Comments. Other than the total lack of knowledge of the person behind the counter. Remember I'm in the gun "friendly" state of New York.
Side note: I have a friend that every time he is asked if the ammo is for a rifle or a pistol will answer either “machine gun” or that he doesn’t shoot them he swallows them as part of a magic trick (not sure if its such a good idea to antagonize the clerk).
