Fixin to have a 1894, and i want to hunt with it. Gettin older and that front sight kinda goes away, especially in low light.
Has anyone tried those bullseye sights that come with a fiber optic front sight?

I have... I mount Williams peeps on all my rifles that will take them. I bought a 1894 in .45 Colt that came with a Firesight already installed. After getting over the ghastliness of having that neon blight on the end of my classic wood and steel levergun, I actually used it... and fell in love with it. In low light or poor contrast conditions, it excels. The one downside to it is... it is a bit bigger than a standard SFP... so it is not the hot setup for target shooting at distance, the big, round neon dot will pretty much cover the target at 100yds, etc. I now have them on both my 336 .30-30, and my 1894FG in .41.

I slapped a mini red dot on my Rossi lever gun and it's great for fast up close shots on moving targets i.e. deer hunting in the brush.

Even better in low light, and faster to pick up your target too.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get a peep sight(maybe the tang version) and then go from there. I hate to end up with a LER scope, but i missed a deer shooting opportunity with my 444 cuz i could not see the front sight in low light conditions.

I wound up having to put a scope on my 1894. I just couldn't see my irons all that well. I put a Leupold fx2 2.5x20 on it. The eye relief is long enough it sits in front of the hammer. Getting it mounted was tricky though. But of all the peeps I tried, I liked the Williams 5d the best. Charlie is right though, the diameter of the fiber pipe is too big.

peep sights are the way to go they fix many problems guys have with normal sights. i like the older lyman peeps the williams are good, The xs sights are nice and ridged and the skinner are beautiful and work very good. the fiber optic re nice but can brake and remember they need light to work u an go to a hobby store and get small bottles of glow in the dark paint, works good just use the opposite color to what u are shooting.
