1:12 twist

what's the heaviest bullet that a 1:12 twist rate could stabilize in the .22 family?

.223? Around 60-62gr.

In .223 I can shoot 62 grain to less than 1 MOA with that twist rate. Have not tried heavier.

that just depends on how big the .22 case is. 22-250 that would probably run a 80 or 85 grain slug just fine. standard twist in a 22-250 is 1 in 16.

i'm thinking more along the lines of .221 fireball.

Keep in mind that it's projectile length, not weight that is effected by twist. The weight of the bullet is just a guideline.

mine starts to just open , with 60 grainers.

My 1-12" 223's would shoot 64grn winchester power points like a house on fire.

i knew about the length. i also thought that the fps might have something to do with it as well. i figured that a faster bullet such as a .223 wouldn't need as much twist to stabilize a bullet of similar weight that's shooting about 400-500 fps slower.
