hi, i am realitivly new to guns as in i mainly know some good gun manufacturers/models and how to shoot guns. i am wondering if a 1 in 10 rate-of-twist is good in a 22 in barrel 30-06?

a 10 twist is fine - it will allow you to shoot heavy-for-caliber bullets (200+ grains) and will shoot light and standard weight bullets fine, too.

Volocity and twist are related. Say you have a 24" barrel with 1 in 10 twist and a muzzle volocity of 2700 fps. That bullet is rotating at 194,400 rpm as it leaves the muzzle.
Then say you have a 18" barrel with a 1 in 10 twist barrel and the same weight bullet with a muzzle volocity of 2400 fps. That bullet is rotating at
172,800 rpm as it leaves the muzzle.
That means that if you are shooting a heavy bullet from a long barreled gun that is just barely stabilizing that heavy bullet it might not stabilize that same bullet from a shorter barreled gun. Can we all agree on that?

Nope, some other varibles such as difference in bullet shape , vibration
of the barrel, velocity may or may not have a stability effect. One in
10 has been the military standard in many of the battle rifles. In this
configuration it fits a great many circumstances that stabilize bullets
from 100 gr. Hornady half jacketed bullets driven under 2000 fps to
220 gr bullets. Sweet spot seems to be 150 to 180gr. in most for accuracy.
I'm sure there may be some exceptions. Heavy bullets seem to do better
with a slower twist, but sometimes exceptions can be found. The 1 inn 10
seems to be an all around compromise. Barrel length has no effect except
for velocity. Shorter the barrel, normally velocity drops at roughly 100 fps.:D

Dick whatever you've been smokin it must be pretty strong. Heavier bullets require a faster twist to stabilize. This is fact. Second the slower the muzzle volocity the slower the spin of the bullet no matter what the twist for a given barrel or the shape or weight of the bullet. That is fact. Apparently you did not read my post correctly. :)

Well, that is true, which is why a .300 Whisper has an 8" twist to shoot heavy bullets subsonic. But in the normal realm of rifle calibers, the effect is not great. The 10" twist was fine for a 220 gr RN at 2000 fps in the Krag and should handle most requirements for later rounds. It is listed as suitable for 210 gr VLDs, and those are long boattails.
