I have been thinking about putting a new barrel on my 10/22 . But , before I do , I have a dumb question . Is there anyway to convert it to a 22 mag . I know Ruger made a 10/22 mag at some point and I can't find one . But I do see the 22 mag barrels for sale . Just a thought .

To the best of my knowledge, no. The 10/22 Mag has a stainless steel receiver (I believe) that had different dimensions than the aluminum 10/22 22lr.

No.....

This cannot be done because of cartridge length differances. The mag requires more room therfore a longer action. next time your at a gun store look at a 22 mag clip compared to the long rofle clip and you will see how much of a differance there is.

It can be done but will require significant machining work on the receiver and trigger group housing. Refer to Chief Dave's modification on rimfire central. When things break, however, you will have to start from scratch with not assistance for repairs.

No. I believe it is possible to convert a .17HMR to a .22 with the simple switch of a barrel. I saw the .22 mag 10/22 converted to .17HMR on Sighting In with Shooting USA. However, you won't be able to convert .22LR to .22WMR without practically machining a new rifle. Additionally, I do not think .22LR can be converted to .17HM2 due to different chamber pressures or something.

The problem of the higher pressured .17 HM2 had been largely corrected by many trial nd error modifications performed by .22 lr 10/22 owners. The most significant changes being more weight to the boly assembly, usually in the form of a heavier bolt handle, and, IIRC, higher spring weights. (Personally, though, I've never tried it myself as I'm well satisfied with the .17 HMR.)

Yes, can be done but it's probably more work than it's worth. I'd just buy a .10/22mag if you can find one reasonably.

Actually, there is a kit with a barrel and bolt to do this.
