The drum mags work for some, not for others. The only mags I have that are as trouble free as the Rugers is the TACTICAL INNOVATIONS steel lip 25rd composite mags.

Butler Creek mags work well. They have two versions, steel lips and hot lips. Both usually work well, but the regular "hot lips" version will wear out eventually due to the non-metalic feed lip construction. With a factory stock they can be pretty tight in the magwell also.

You'll have the best luck with 10/22 aftermarket mags after you replace the extractor with a Volquartson "Exact Edge". Now even the cheap Eagle 30-rounders work great for me.
I've got the MGW it works but is too big a PITA to load.
As to loaders, the Butler Creek works great, but only for Butler Creek mags (I don't see why, but they say it won't work for others and it don't!). The Ramline loader is garbage, stay away!. Best for me is the Shooter's Ridge which works with all my mags (except the MGW).

butler creek steel lips then hotlips. but even the eagle 30s run well, I just think they have a shorter life span. sucks for me, cause as they die, many manufacturers will not do warranty repair work because I'm in new york.

Best mags I've used, got them at a local gun shop. Paid $30 each. Cheaper than CheaperThanDirt once you add shipping.
Gander Mountain had them for $49.
I left them there.Like someone else said, replace your extractor with the Volquartzen one and even the Jam-Line mags will work tolerably.

My 10/22 would ONLY work reliably with the factory rotaries or the "steel lips" mags. Anything else would suffer a FT feed every 5th round or so, both eagles and butler creeks.
I was in Cabelas a few days ago, and they had the steel lips mags, 25 rd IIRC, and I think they were under $30, but I wasn't looking that closely.
I gave up on the high caps, as I don't see a lot of point other than just blazing, and you can't even do that if they won't feed reliably. I actually sold mine during the AWB for $100 each, so I suppose they make a good investment....

FTF with Tactical mag
I went to the range with my 10/22 and used the 25-rnd Tactical Innovations mag with bulk Federal ammo. Several times the empty casing would jam and prevent the next round from loading. Maybe it's an ammo issue rather than a magazine issue? Might have to try again with better ammunition.

Sounds exactly like the problems I had with the Butler Creek before I replace the extractor with the "Volguartson Exact Edge".
As I said in my earlier post, even the $9 Eagle 30 rounders are working fine since I put in this extractor. I'm pretty much only shooting the Federal bulk pak these days.
An extended mag catch is another $5 well spent if you want to enjoy high capacity mags in your 10/22 rifle.
