I have had a time with mags for the 10/22. The 10 round factory mags are good but wanting a higher round count mag has been hard to find a reliable source. The factory mag seems to wear out quickly and a little pricey. I am looking for ideas on what others use that perform well.
I have had some plastic 25 round mags that just do not work well and I am always clearing a jam. What do you use in your 10/22 ?

are ;you using the hi caps with steel lips,or plastic? The steel lilpped ones cost a bit more, but are more favored by 1022 owners.

I have several of the Butler Creek 25 round mags and have never had the first problem. They make one with plastic lips and a more expensive version with steel lips that is supposed to be more durable. I'm sure the steel lips will last longer but I have both kinds and have had equal succcess with both so far.

I actually like the Butler Creek 10 round magazines best because they do not hang down so far and are not in the way. Plus they are easier to insert and remove from the gun than factory mags because there is something to hold onto.

If you have problems with factory mags your gun may have other problems.
Tac Innov. steel lip mags and butler creek steel lips are usually considered best for high capacity. I haven't had any problems with butler creek hot lips (plastic) and I picked them up on sale for $13 so I use those (actually the first mag full had a couple ftfs, after that they worked flawlessly).

From time to time the factory mags need to be taken apart and cleaned. They can be a little tricky to put back together but with a little patience it can be done. Make sure to wind the spring enough or they will not function correctly.

I have a Ruger 10/22 factory mag that's been flawless for 15 years. On the other hand, I've had some really awful aftermarket hi-caps.

The only 25rd mag that has ever worked reliably in my 10/22 was a Butler Creek one.

info on mags

i use the 25 rnd Butler crks, both the hot lips and steel lips. i have had problems with them sticking when they have sat loaded for a while, especially in the heat of the summer.

what i figure happens is that the wax lube on the ammo kinda glue themselves together and need to be loosened by leaving the last round out and when ready to use, just push down on the almost full stack of ammo to break up the wax "glue". works for me every time. - Eric

I have not found any wear in the factory mag and I have used it for 5 years now.
But those plastic lip mags are just junk that wear out suprisingly fast.
