10/22 "mg-42" stock kit?

Okay, I'm intrigued. I saw a 10/22 "drop in" stock kit in a magazine that'll make it look like a smaller MG-42. Has anyone seen one in person, or does anyone own one?

Lots of folks bought those to dress up their ww2 vintage German Motorcylces.

They also sold well to folks with Replica Storm Trooper uniforms.

I've never seen a range report/review on them.

They look real cute at about 50 feet. At 5 feet they look sort of like a watergun.

Which is why I want to see an actual picture.

I got one.

When they first came out, you could get the kits with or without a bi-pod. The bi-pod, the Featherweight, was made by a company called Cherokee, IIRC. They are no longer in business which is too bad s it was the best one for the kit. The current bi-pod you see with the kits now look bulky and not a part of the gun. The sights are adjustable, front for windage, rear for elevation. It is lamost entirely out of plastic. It comes in two major pieces which are attached togather just in front of the receiver. The front stock sight must bre removed before inserting the barrel into the barrel shroud. The kit is ~2/3 the size of an actual MG42. The 'MG charging handle' is a molded part of the kit so it does not move.

If I'm ever going though a down time in life and I need a fun gun to just blast away with, that'll be it. Of course, for added enjoyment, it'll need one of those rapid-fire cranks on it...

I suspect that an experienced scale model builder could have real fun 'kit bashing' (customizing) one of these. It is just crying out for a Lafette tripod.

How would you rate the durability of one of these? I am interested in butchering one and stuffing a paintball gun in one of these, and I am wondering if it would stand up to the abuse of paintball.

Although hollow in the buttstock, I'm pretty sure the kit would be able to withstand take a hit from a paintball under normal conditions. I do have to say, though, that I've never experienced getting hit by a paintball or even seen first hand a paintball hitting anything. I know there are speed limits to them in competition but for souped up paintball guns, I'm not totally sure.

The only area I would think a paintball could break anything are the webbed areas of the barrel shroud. (The plastic parts between the holes.) The sights are a little flimsy and might break off if it's going to be handle roughly but they can be removed.
